Every DC Character Confirmed In Joker 2

Every DC Character Confirmed In Joker 2

Todd Phillips’ version of Gotham City and Batman’s archenemy, Joker, will continue in Joker: Folie à Deux, and even though plot details are still unknown, a couple of DC characters have already been confirmed to appear. In 2019, the audience met a new version of the Joker, separate from the DCEU, in Todd Phillips’ Joker, which instead of focusing on Bruce Wayne/Batman and the Joker’s dynamic, gave the Clown Prince a Crime a different, more grounded, but also grimmer origin story. Joker introduced Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix), a failed stand-up comedian dealing with mental illness who is pushed to his limits by the decay in Gotham City and some shocking reveals about his family.

After defending himself from drunk businessmen, Arthur’s actions unintentionally inspired a countercultural revolution against the wealthy, which reached its peak after Arthur’s deadly appearance on Murray Franklin’s (Robert De Niro) show, where he was officially introduced as “Joker”. Joker: Folie à Deux will reunite viewers with Arthur at Arkham State Hospital, confirming that the ending of Joker wasn’t a product of Arthur’s mind, and he will meet new characters in Arkham and outside, both original ones and from the DC universe – and here’s every DC character confirmed in Joker: Folie à Deux so far.

Of course, Arthur Fleck is coming back as the title character in Joker: Folie à Deux. During the events of Joker, it was revealed that Arthur has a rare neurological disorder that causes him to have random, uncontrollable laughing fits, though this was put into question once he became the Joker, and it was also revealed that his mother, Penny (Frances Conroy), wasn’t his biological mother, and she adopted him while working as a housekeeper for the Waynes. Penny argued that Thomas Wayne was Arthur’s father, but after confronting him, Arthur learned that it wasn’t true. Another shocking reveal in Joker was that Arthur’s relationship with his neighbor, Sophie Dumond (Zazie Beetz), wasn’t real, and after meeting once in the elevator, Arthur imagined having a relationship with her, which raised the question of which events of Joker were real and which weren’t.

While a series of riots unleashed in the streets of Gotham City, Arthur appeared in Murray Franklin’s show, where he told morbid jokes, confessed to the murder of the Wayne Enterprises businessmen, and ranted about Gotham’s society before shooting Murray on air. After being freed by rioters, Arthur was arrested and taken to Arkham State Hospital, where at the end of Joker, it was implied that he killed his therapist. Joker 2 will see him meeting a new doctor in Arkham, who will end up becoming his ally and love interest, triggering even more chaos inside and outside Arkham.

2 Dr. Harleen Quinzel a.k.a. Harley Quinn

Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn in Joker 2

While the DCEU has its own version of Harley Quinn thanks to Margot Robbie, the universe of Joker is also getting its own version of this beloved character in Joker 2. Harley Quinn was created for the TV series Batman: The Animated Series, and she was a psychologist who took an internship at Arkham Asylum. There she met the Joker, who manipulated her through fake stories about his childhood and made her conclude that Batman was the main source of the Joker’s anger and the one to blame for his actions. Dr. Harleen Quinzel fell in love with the Joker and helped him escape, and she renamed herself Harley Quinn and became his sidekick. The relationship between Harley Quinn and the Joker is notable for how toxic it is, and this will surely be addressed in Joker 2.

Harley Quinn will be played by Lady Gaga in Joker: Folie à Deux, and while there are no details about her role in the movie yet, the official images as well as set videos and photos all hint at Joker 2 being loyal to Harley’s origin story. The first official images of Gaga in Joker 2 showed her with Arthur in what seems to be a room in Arkhan, with Arthur wearing his Joker makeup and Harley without any makeup, suggesting that’s the scene where Harley falls in love with Arthur.

1 Harvey Dent

The Dark Knight Harvey Dent and his coin

Although there’s no confirmation on who will play Harvey Dent in Joker 2, his presence in the movie was confirmed by set photos shared on social media. These photos showed people protesting for Arthur’s freedom and justice for him, and among those signs is one that reads “Harvey Dent is the Clown”, hinting at Dent’s involvement in Arthur’s trial and, perhaps, in keeping him in Arkham. Dent’s presence in Joker: Folie à Deux makes sense in terms of theme, as Joker was about the failures of American mental healthcare, and the sequel could focus on the justice system in Gotham City and its failures, and Harvey Dent is a key player in that.
