20th Century Fox’s The Bob’s Burgers Movie makes quite a few changes that should appear in the long-running TV series. Created by Loren Bouchard, Bob’s Burgers just finished airing its twelfth season before the release of The Bob’s Burgers Movie, which faced multiple delays because of the COVID-19 pandemic. As Fox’s animated sitcom continues into its thirteenth and fourteenth seasons, the show should incorporate many of the details from its feature film.
The Bob’s Burgers Movie follows the Belcher family struggling to make a payment on their bank loan when a giant sinkhole swallows up the stretch of road in front of the restaurant. Teddy (Larry Murphy) helps Bob (H. Jon Benjamin) and Linda (John Roberts) sell burgers at Wonder Wharf because the restaurant is inaccessible to customers. Louise (Kristen Schaal) is determined to prove she is brave despite a girl at school calling her a baby for wearing her pink rabbit ears all the time and Tina (Dan Mintz) is conflicted about developing her relationship with Jimmy Jr. (also H. Jon Benjamin) as the Belcher kids set off on their own adventure to save the restaurant.
While The Bob’s Burgers Movie may not have as many iconic moments as The Simpsons’ Movie, The Bob’s Burgers Movie can easily incorporate its most memorable moments into the show. The start of the Belchers’ sunny side up summer provides significant character development and builds on the show’s many running gags. The biggest The Bob’s Burgers Movie details that should change Bob’s Burgers also prove that the movie lives up to the show’s legacy. Here’s how the movie might impact the show.
Teddy’s Bob Burger Cart
While it is not the first time Bob has moved his burger-making business outside of the restaurant, Teddy’s “Bob Burger” cart helps the Belchers sell burgers outside of the restaurant. The food cart comes with a shiny olive tray that is especially useful as Teddy uses the tray to save the Belchers, who are trapped in a Wonder Wharf go-cart. Even though the Bob Burger cart collapses in on itself, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the olive tray make it into the restaurant of H. Jon Benjamin’s Bob after its pivotal role in the movie.
Louise’s Pink Rabbit Ears
As the Belchers face certain death after being buried in the giant sinkhole, Louise apologizes for her reliance on her pink rabbit ears. Louise feels responsible for getting the Belchers in trouble by involving them with a dangerous murderer to prove her own bravery. However, Linda and Bob reveal to Louise that Linda knitted the hat for Louise because she was so brave on her first day of school and that it also serves as a reminder of Bob’s mother, who always wore a pink cap. The Bob’s Burgers Movie provides a new significance for Louise’s pink rabbit ears hat and creates a great change that should be reflected in the show.
Tina and Jimmy Jr.
Tina’s obsession with Jimmy Jr. manifests in her desire to ask him to be her summer boyfriend. But as Tina thinks more about more about popping the question to Jimmy Jr., she changes her mind and tosses the chain she made with her barrette into the ocean. However, Jimmy Jr. finds the chain washed up on the beach and gives it back to Tina and they do end up becoming summer boyfriend and girlfriend. This is a notable status update to Tina and Jimmy Jr.’s relationship and Bob’s Burgers will be hard-pressed to explain what happens with the two without ignoring the relationship entirely.
The Grand Re-Re-Re-Re-Opening
While The Bob’s Burgers Movie has a post-credits scene involving Tina, Bob’s Burgers opening credits should see a significant update after the events of the movie. With the sinkhole repaired and the bank loan payment completed, the Belcher family’s restaurant sees a grand re-re-re-re-opening and a giant sign is even posted at the top of the storefront by Teddy. Adding the re-re-re-re-opening into the opening credits of the show would be a great way to acknowledge the movie.
With both critics and casual audiences praising The Bob’s Burgers Movie, the Belcher family’s big-screen debut is definitely a success. The show’s thirteenth season is expected to premiere in the fall. But hopefully, the success of the movie also means more songs and laughs in the form of a Bob’s Burgers Movie 2 sequel.
