Every Ben Affleck Cameo In A Kevin Smith Movie

Every Ben Affleck Cameo In A Kevin Smith Movie

Here’s every cameo Ben Affleck has made in Kevin Smith’s View Askewniverse. Before Ben Affleck and best bud Matt Damon broke through with Good Will Hunting, the pair were struggling actors trying to find their way in the business. One of Affleck’s earliest roles of note was playing a villain in Kevin Smith’s Mallrats, the director’s follow-up to his indie hit Clerks. While Mallrats wasn’t a hit – though it later became a cult favorite – Affleck and Smith became regular collaborators.

Affleck fronted Smith’s rom-com Chasing Amy in 1997, while he and Damon both headlined Smith’s controversial religious satire Dogma. Sadly, in later years as their careers took different paths, Smith and Affleck became estranged. To the delight of their fans, the duo has since rekindled their friendship, after Smith reached out to his old friend about appearing as one of Jay And Silent Bob Reboot many cameos in 2019.

Affleck has played lead roles in several of Smith’s View Askew movies. As his leading man career took off in the early 2000s, though, he often made cameos instead. Here’s a list of every Ben Affleck View Askew cameo.

Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back (2001) – Holden McNeil / Himself

Every Ben Affleck Cameo In A Kevin Smith Movie

Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back was the all-star “finale” of the View Askew saga, with Smith originally intending to end the series and move on to other projects. The movie is thick with cameos, including Damon, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Jason Lee, Chris Rock, and many more. Affleck actually plays two roles, reprising Holden from Chasing Amy, who co-created the Bluntman and Chronic comic series based on Jay and Bob. Affleck later appears as himself alongside Damon, reprising their roles in the fake sequel Good Will Hunting 2: Hunting Season.

Clerks 2 (2006) – Gawking Customer

Ben Affleck Clerks 2 Cameo

While Affleck became a bona fide leading man in the early 2000s, his career hit a rough patch after a series of duds like the infamous Gigli and Surviving Christmas. His high-profile romance with Jennifer Lopez – dubbed “Bennifer” – also led to the actor being mocked in the media, so it’s little wonder he decided to make a brief cameo in his friend’s movie. In Clerks 2, he’s credited as “Gawking Customer,” who is forced to watch Dante make out with his fiancé while waiting for his Mooby’s food order. “Not very hygienic. That’s all I’m gonna tell you,” are Affleck’s only lines.

Jay And Silent Bob Reboot (2019) – Holden McNeil

Another Ben Affleck cameo in a Kevin Smith View Askew movie came with Jay And Silent Bob Reboot. This brought the titular characters back to the big screen for the first time in 13 years, and it was also the movie that helped mend Affleck and Smith’s friendship. The director invited Affleck to cameo in the sequel, where he reprised Chasing Amy’s Holden once again, who Jay and Bob encounter at Comic-Con. Holden also inspires Jay to take his responsibilities as a father seriously.

Clerks 3 (2022) – Boston John

Clerks 3 Ben Affleck Cameo

The most recent Kevin Smith movie Affleck cameoed in was Clerks III. In the film, Randal and his friends are making a movie about the convenience store, and they hold auditions to cast it. Affleck is Boston John, one of the struggling actors who tries out for the film. This is a reference to Ben Affleck and Kevin Smith’s history together, as an infamous user by the same name on Smith’s View Askew message board was the source of a joke between the two celebrities. For as long as the View Askewniverse continues, there will likely be more Ben Affleck cameos.
