Eve Warlock’s New Costume Proves She’s High Evolutionary’s Masterpiece (Not Adam)

Eve Warlock’s New Costume Proves She’s High Evolutionary’s Masterpiece (Not Adam)

Warning: spoilers for Warlock: Rebirth #2!The sister of Adam Warlock has a new costume, unveiled simultaneously just as a shocking MCU connection is revealed. In just two issues, Warlock: Rebirth has stayed true to its name by altering Adam Warlock’s history forever. For the first time in the character’s 55-year history, Adam Warlock is revealed to have a sister named Eve. After emerging from a mysterious cocoon, she knocked her brother unconscious with one blow. In the process, Eve took Adam’s Soul Gem from his temple, after withstanding a direct blast of its power.

Warlock: Rebirth #2 by Ron Marz, Ron Lim, Don Ho, Romulo Fajardo Jr, and Joe Sabino continues to expand on who Eve Warlock is and where she comes from. The issue sees Eve speaking to her creator, who vows that she will surpass Adam Warlock as the mother to the next evolution of humankind. Her creator is soon revealed to be the High Evolutionary. To prepare Eve to become “the hero [she is] meant to be,” he gifts her a brand-new costume – acknowledging her as Adam’s superior replacement.

High Evolutionary Created Eve to Replace Adam Warlock

Eve Warlock’s New Costume Proves She’s High Evolutionary’s Masterpiece (Not Adam)

In Marvel Comics lore, the High Evolutionary took the cosmic being who was initially known as “Him” and rechristened him “Adam Warlock.” While he did not directly create Warlock, the High Evolutionary accepted him as an adopted son of sorts, and even bestowed the Soul Gem upon him as the source of much of his power. Both characters were recently adapted into the Marvel Cinematic Universe for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 where the High Evolutionary creates Warlock, but ‘hatches’ him too early to apprehend Rocket Raccoon.

Eve’s Costume Foreshadows a Heroic Turn

The High Evolutionary and Adam Warlock have frequently clashed ever since, and the introduction of Eve continues to connect the two. The High Evolutionary maintains his obsession with perfection, hoping for Eve to achieve a level of perfection he feels the “failed” Adam never achieved. High Evolutionary even sent Eve to seize the Soul Gem as her own. Fixing his MCU mistake, High Evolutionary has improved on Adam Warlock, creating a new version who he feels is truly perfect. Since he does claim to have created her, this makes Eve technically more of an actual daughter to the High Evolutionary than Adam was a son. This also means Eve would be more susceptible to manipulation on behalf of her father.

But while the High Evolutionary is immediately presented sinisterly, deep in the shadows upon his introduction, Eve never quite feels villainous in either issue. If anything, she may be misguided, carrying out orders from a higher power. With her gold and red costume and billowing cape, Eve Warlock couldn’t look more like a traditional superhero, suggesting her redemption is on the cards. If Adam Warlock does manage to bring his sister to the light, she will truly earn her costume to become a superhero, not just the High Evolutionary’s latest experiment.
