Euphoria Star’s Two New Movies Shatter His Terrible Rotten Tomatoes Streak

Saltburn and Priscilla have turned around Jacob Elordi’s negative Rotten Tomatoes streak. Elordi, who rose to fame playing Noah Flynn in Netflix’s Kissing Booth trilogy and Nate Jacobs in HBO’s Euphoria, plays Elvis Presley in Priscilla, Sofia Coppola’s new movie that presents his marriage to Priscilla Presley from Priscilla’s perspective. He also plays the role of the irresistible and wealthy Felix Catton in the new movie Saltburn, a psychological thriller from Promising Young Woman writer-director Emerald Fennell in which he stars opposite Oscar nominee Barry Keoghan.

Rotten Tomatoes has now aggregated a score of 75% for Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn out of 96 different critics’ reviews. Combined with the Certified Fresh 82% score held by Priscilla, this shatters Elordi’s recent Rotten Tomatoes streak, which has seen the star receive Rotten scores for six movies in a row, including The Kissing Booth 2 (27%), The Very Excellent Mr. Dundee (18%), and Deep Water (35%). In fact, before 2023 he has only had a single Fresh movie, The Mortuary Collection (96%), since his movie career kicked off with 2018’s Swinging Safari (N/A) and The Kissing Booth (15%).

Can Jacob Elordi Keep the Fresh Movies Coming?

Jacob Elordi’s Elvis performance in Priscilla could very well lead him to earn an Oscar nomination considering the movie’s buzzy awards season release. With the release of Saltburn, the star is proving he has the ability to anchor respectable wide-release movies in addition to teen television dramas. While it looks like his career is about to take a major critical upswing, it remains to be seen if he can keep this Fresh streak going.

So far, Elordi’s prospects are looking good. The next release he has scheduled is December’s The Sweet East. The drama, which also features Simon Rex, Ayo Edebiri, and Jeremy O. Harris, premiered at Cannes this May and has already received strong early reactions from critics. Thanks to a variety of reviews from its premiere, the movie already has an early Rotten Tomatoes score of 88%. While that will fluctuate as more reviews are added closer to its official release, the fact that the score is this high means that it’s likely to stay Fresh come December.

While he has another festival movie, He Went That Way (50%), that could potentially break his streak if its early reviews hold once it gets a release date, Elordi’s upcoming movies all have the opportunity to earn Fresh scores. Outside of the television realm, he will mostly be starring in original movies including Paul Schrader’s Oh Canada and the drama On Swift Horses (opposite Daisy Edgar-Jones). If they succeed critically, the positive Rotten Tomatoes impact of the dual Saltburn and Priscilla release this Fall could very well continue for years to come.
