Euphoria Season 3’s Release Plan Means Its Repeating A Common Hollywood Mistake

Euphoria season 3 has been highly anticipated and has faced disappointing delays, and the new release plan will mean that the show has to make a common Hollywood mistake. Due to the writer and actor strikes for 2023, Max confirmed that the next installment of the popular drama won’t be heading to the small screen until 2025. Production for the show will not begin until 2024, which is a significant delay from what was originally expected.

This puts increased pressure on Euphoria to live up to the success of previous seasons, given how much anticipation has been built up after the long wait. The creator of Euphoria, Sam Levinson, gave an interesting update on Zendaya’s character, Rue, that set up what the third season could entail. He explained that it would “explore what it means to be an individual with principles in a corrupt world.” Given the release date’s delay, delivering on this could look different than how it would have originally.

Euphoria Season 3 Not Releasing Until 2025 Means The Cast Will Be Much Older Than Before

Hollywood has long had a tendency to have actors play high school students many years after they themselves are not teenagers anymore. At times, this is incredibly obvious and deteriorates from the believability of the story. Unfortunately, this is a trend Euphoria will now be partaking in because of its season 3 release plan. With Euphoria‘s season 3 releasing in 2025, the cast will obviously be much older than before.

Zendaya, for example, was 23 years old when the show started and will be 29 by the time season 3 is released. Her playing a 17-year-old was believable enough at 23, but 29 feels like a bit of a stretch. Perception of the actors is already starting to shift, as Schafer, who plays Jules, played an adult Tigris in The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Euphoria has been celebrated for portraying the difficulties of the high school experience, so having actors that don’t feel like they could actually be in high school at all could serve as a major problem.

How Euphoria Season 3 Can Fix Its Cast Age Problem

Rue and Jules are standing at a carnival looking at something in the distance in Euphoria.

While not ideal, there is a way that Euphoria season 3 can fix the problem presented by the cast’s ages. If it moves the show forward to a different point in the characters’ lives, it would make way more sense for the actors. Given that the show’s schedule was delayed due to unforeseen circumstances, it is very possible that it already has a set storyline that continues with the characters at the stage of life viewers last saw them in.

This Euphoria time jump could be incorporated through flashbacks or stories that the characters are telling. That way, the glaring inconsistencies of the actors’ and characters’ ages won’t be prevalent throughout the entire season, but viewers will still get closure in the high school chapter. This also allows for a new angle to be tackled within the show and seeing how Rue and the rest of the gang navigate young adult life would be captivating.
