Eternals Star Thinks Druig Could Easily Beat Thanos In A Fight

Warning! Spoilers ahead for Eternals.

Eternals star Barry Keoghan believes that Druig can defeat Thanos (Josh Brolin). Marvel Studios’ latest blockbuster directed by Chloé Zhao officially introduced the MCU’s newest superhero team. Created by the Celestials, the Eternals’ primary mandate was to protect humanity from Deviants.

After believing that their goal to eradicate their arch-nemesis had been achieved, Eternals leader, Ajak (Salma Hayek) let all of its members go their separate ways. They remained scattered around the world but were forced to re-assemble after a significantly-evolved Deviant re-appeared. At the end of Eternals, several of the main 10 titular characters of the movie died, leaving seven of them to continue operating on Earth. However, in the closing scene of the blockbuster Celestial, Arishem the Judge abducted Sersi (Gemma Chan), Kingo (Kumail Nanjiani), and Sprite (Lia McHugh). Meanwhile, Druig, alongside Thena (Angelina Jolie) and Makkari (Lauren Ridloff) are committed to searching for them.

The Eternals are now officially established players in the MCU, and while Zha0’s film offered an explanation as to why they didn’t partake in the fight against Thanos, many are still wondering how things would’ve panned out if they did. For Keoghan, he sounds very confident that Druig can defeat the Mad Titan, and even without using his signature mind-controlling skills. Instead, he believes he can take down the villain via his boxing abilities as he told ComicBook.

“[Druig] could beat him with his hands. He doesn’t need mind control. Druig is a pretty good boxer as well.”

Eternals Star Thinks Druig Could Easily Beat Thanos In A Fight

While it’s difficult to tell exactly how powerful the Eternals are compared to the Avengers given their limited appearance in the MCU thus far, it’s safe to say that they are the superior team compared to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. That being said, certain members of the Avengers could perhaps hold in a one-on-one fight. In both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, heroes needed to team up to go up against the Mad Titan, with the exception of several characters, including Hulk. Bruce Banner’s fight with the purple alien at the beginning of Avengers: Infinity War revealed that Thanos was also a capable physical fighter, easily defeating Hulk in a slugfest. Eternals didn’t really show Druig use much of his physical powers, but if Keoghan’s comment about his character’s boxing skills are indeed impressive, then his hypothetical match with the Mad Titan could be very entertaining.

In any case, Druig can use hypnosis in tandem with his boxing prowess. As seen in the Titan fight in Avengers: Infinity War, Thanos, as powerful as he may be, was not immune to mind control. Mantis (Pom Klementieff) was able to hold him off while the rest of the heroes attempted to snatch away the Infinity Gauntlet. Had it not been for Star-Lord’s emotional outburst, this plan may have succeeded. But now that Thanos is dead in the MCU’s Sacred Timeline, this potential match-up with Eternals‘ Druig could just be a one-big what-if scenario — unless Marvel Studios explores it in Marvel’s What If…?
