Eric Andre Teases Potential Bad Trip 2 With A Lot Of Church Pranks

Co-writer and star Eric André teases potential development on Bad Trip 2 and says the sequel could feature a lot of church-based pranks. The hidden camera comedy film centered on best friends Chris and Bud as they take a road trip from Florida to New York City so Chris can profess his love for his high school crush while Bud’s escaped criminal sister Trina chases after them for stealing her car for the trip. Kitao Sakurai directed the film on a script he co-wrote with André and Dan Curry from a story the former duo developed with Andrew Barchilon.

Alongside André, the cast for Bad Trip was led by Lil Rel Howery as Bud, Michaela Conlin as high school crush Maria Li and Tiffany Haddish as Trina. Filmed over the course of four years, the film was originally planned to make its world premiere at 2020’s South by Southwest Film Festival and get a theatrical release by Orion Pictures the following month, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the rights were sold to Netflix. After initially leaking from an accidental Amazon Prime Video release, Bad Trip would land on Netflix in March 2021 to a solid success and it appears the creatives behind the project are ready for more.

While speaking with Entertainment Weekly about his role in the upcoming The Righteous Gemstones season 2, André opened up about the potential Bad Trip 2. The co-writer/star revealed he is reflecting on ideas for a sequel to his hit hidden camera comedy movie, including having church pranks. See what André shared below:

“It was such a success, I would be remiss if I didn’t take another crack at it. It was so trial by fire that there were so many mistakes and failures. We shot probably 10-times the amount of footage that you saw in the final cut of the movie. Now we know what we’re doing, so it would be nice to take a stab at it again with the knowledge that we had to learn the hard way. Oh, I got a lot of church pranks in my head. Those are coming.”

Eric Andre Teases Potential Bad Trip 2 With A Lot Of Church Pranks

When it comes to hidden camera comedy titles, there certainly is no limit to just who can be targeted for a prank and a church certainly seems right up the alley of Eric André’s unique brand of comedy. Between his wild antics on his acclaimed Adult Swim series The Eric André Show to his upcoming role on Danny McBride’s mega-church-skewering The Righteous Gemstones season 2, the comedian has plenty of insight into how to blend the two subjects together for a potential Bad Trip 2. Additionally, with André’s upcoming appearance in Jackass Forever and potentially Jackass 4.5, both of which he contributed writing to, the star is clearly not slowing down on the hidden camera format any time soon.

As André states in his interview, it would be pretty hard to pass up on at least exploring a potential Bad Trip 2 given the first film’s success at Netflix. Despite being leaked and pirated from its brief availability on Amazon Prime Video, the first Bad Trip would still reach the No. 1 worldwide spot on its actual streaming platform and received largely favorable reviews from critics, currently sitting at a 78 percent “Certified Fresh” approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. While audiences await word on a sequel getting off the ground, they can catch up with the first Bad Trip streaming on Netflix now and look forward to André in Jackass Forever in theaters on February 4.
