Endgame Fan Art Imagines Tony Stark & His Adult Daughter Meeting in Soul World

New Avengers: Endgame fan-art visualizes Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) meeting an older Morgan in Soul World. The Joe and Anthony Russo-directed flick wrapped up the MCU’s The Infinity Saga which is the collective term used for all 22 films in franchise thus far. And it was also fitting that it marked the end of the the journey of the universe’s inaugural hero – Iron Man in a heroic way that beautifully finishes his personal arc. But Tony’s ending was supposed to be more emotional as he was initially planned to mystically meet his daughter after he was killed to defeat Thanos (Josh Brolin) by wielding the power of all six Infinity Stones  – a scene that was left on the editing room floor.

With Endgame implementing a five-year time jump after the events of Avengers: Infinity War, Stark made good on his promise to marry Pepper (Gwyneth Paltrow) and leave his superhero life behind. Living a quiet life with his wife and daughter, Morgan, he was, however, roped back in to do one final mission in the hopes of bringing back all those who were snuffed out of existence due to Thanos’ snap – including Peter Parker (Tom Holland). But while the Avengers succeeded in their initial mission, Thanos continuously threatened the fate of the universe forcing Stark to sacrifice himself to ensure the future of the galaxy, and in the process of doing that, he was killed, leaving his Pepper and Morgan behind. The father and daughter were supposed to have one final goodbye, but the Russos scrapped it to the dismay of fans. But a new fan-art offers the public what that emotional meeting would’ve looked like on the big screen.

Courtesy of digital artist Ultraraw26 on Instagram comes an illustration that imagines Stark meeting an older Morgan in Endgame. The artwork’s setting is similar to the yellow-tinted dimension that Thanos found himself in after he first used the completed Infinity Gauntlet toward the end of Infinity War. There, he was reunited with a young Gamora who asked him “what did it cost” to achieve his goal. Fans in the comment section love the visualization especially with teenage Morgan resembling Katherine Langford who was initially cast for the role. See the illustration below:

The scene that inspired the fan-art was actually shot and included during test screenings. But the Russos say that it didn’t get the reaction that they were hoping for with the sequence so they decided to take it out of the theatrical cut. Perhaps it could be included in Endgame‘s home release so more people can see what that bit was like since it’s thematically fitting for Stark to meet his daughter the same way Thanos did his in Infinity War. Based purely on fans’ comments on the aforementioned artwork, most of them are clamoring to see the scene, some of them are quite confused how it couldn’t get the positive response it needed to be kept in the official movie cut.

Avengers: Endgame did a good job wrapping up Iron Man’s MCU story. Every narrative beat was meticulously plotted in a way that it makes sense for him to make the sacrificial play in the end especially since had been accused of being the franchise’s quasi-villain for quite some time now. The film effectively established his relationship with Morgan in the few scenes that they shared in the movie which harkens back to his fractured link with his own father. And in hindsight, Stark actually interacting with his daughter in the film is arguably more powerful than seeing him conjuring an image of her or seeing her in the future. But it probably wouldn’t have hurt the movie if they also included the cut Langford scenes.
