Emmys 2022: The Biggest Nomination Snubs, According To Reddit

Emmys 2022: The Biggest Nomination Snubs, According To Reddit

The 2022 Emmy nominations were announced on Tuesday morning and along with them came the critiques of viewers of shows that didn’t get the attention or praise that they deserved. While some were excited to see their favorite shows and actors get nominations, others were disappointed that some missed out on their last chance to get an award for their performances.

From Mandy Moore’s performance in the final season of This Is Us to the lack of praise for The Righteous Gemstones, fans felt frustrated with the over-saturation of certain series’ (The White Lotus had nearly every actor nominated) and the lack of acknowledgment for others (Reservation Dogs and The Afterparty received zero each).

The Righteous Gemstones

Emmys 2022: The Biggest Nomination Snubs, According To Reddit

The Righteous Gemstones has received plenty of critical acclaim but failed to be noticed by the Emmys. Despite a loyal fanbase and two stellar seasons, the Danny McBride series has failed to garner any award show praise, much to the surprise and dismay of fans.

Redditor quaranTV wrote of their Emmy-related frustrations, “I felt like the Emmys completely nailed nominations this year EXCEPT snubbing this show. Genuinely confused cause it’s a fairly popular HBO show (not even HBOMax) with high quality production/writing/etc and a decent amount of big name actors.”

The Afterparty

The Afterparty Finale Killer Yasper

AppleTV comedy series The Afterparty didn’t receive any love from the Emmys this year, despite being one of fans’ favorite new shows to debut in the last year. The show includes many popular comedic actors including Sam Richardson, Tiffany Haddish, Ben Schwartz, and John Early.

Reddit user JuanRiveara explained they thought the show deserved at least one nomination, “The Afterparty getting no nominations is disappointing for me. Was hoping at the very least for a song nomination, still have Yasper’s songs stuck in my head.”

Sarah Goldberg (Barry)

Sarah Goldberg Barry Season 1

HBO’s Barry is a massive hit and gathered a few nominations in the Best Comedy Series and Lead Actor In A Comedy category, but the Emmys missed the mark when it came to other important members of the show.

Redditor Adubis18 wrote, “She wasn’t a lock or anything, but no Sarah Goldberg really stunk. Her (spoilers for the last episode of Barry season 3) shock after killing the home invader is the best acting the show has seen imo.” Goldberg has portrayed Sally on Barry for three seasons and has certainly shown her range from season one until the current season.

Better Call Saul

Jimmy McGill points in court in Better Call Saul

Better Call Saul is currently airing its final season, and while there were a handful of nominations for the Breaking Bad spinoff, there were also plenty of snubs for the masterclass of a show, specifically in the supporting actor categories.

Reddit user bowlofpasta92 explained the frustration behind the lack of nominations for several Better Call Saul actors, “Michael Mando and Patrick Fabian were absolutely robbed of a nomination. Those two put out brilliant performances in Better Call Saul this season.”

Selena Gomez (Only Murders In The Building)

Mabel looking stunned in Only Murders in the Building

Only Murders In The Building recently returned to Hulu with its sophomore season, and while main characters Martin Short and Steve Martin were nominated for their roles on the show, the third member of their trio was snubbed.

Redditor adalby12 contributed to a thread listing notable Emmy snubs by writing, “Selena Gomez was a huge snub for OMITB, but all the nominees are great it was a pretty full category.” Gomez has gotten fan acclaim for her role as Mabel, especially her ability to keep up with comedic legends Short and Martin.

Antony Starr (The Boys)

Homelander looking to his left in The Boys season 3

The Boys has been notably absent from award show noms since its premiere, and while its newest season wasn’t technically eligible for the awards this year (the third season just debuted on Amazon Prime), the last season was.

Reddit user Jayce86 complained of the lack of The Boys representation, especially for the man who portrays supervillain Homelander: “Antony Starr not getting a nomination is blasphemy. It has been a WHILE since an actor has made me hate their character as much as I despise Homelander, while also feeling pity for the man child.”

Reservation Dogs

The teen drama series Reservation Dogs was an under-the-radar hit, however, it was a critically acclaimed hit nonetheless, and very notably absent from any and all Emmy nominations.

Redditor TeachBig7706 shared their surprise with the lack of love for the FX series, “I am kinda shocked that Reservation Dogs didn’t get in, wow what the heck.” Reservation Dogs currently has a 98% on Rotten Tomatoes and is slated to return with season 2 later this year.

Sadie Sink (Stranger Things)

Max looking scared in Stranger Things season 4

Stranger Things has taken the world by storm since its debut in 2016 and has only been getting better season by season. Fans were shocked that the show didn’t get any acting nominations, notably missing praise from the academy in regard to Sadie Sink’s portrayal of a grieving Max Mayfield in season 4.

Reddit user mrnicegy26 wrote, “I am disappointed that Sadie Sink wasn’t nominated. Although the supporting actress is packed this year.” Though Sink’s competition would’ve been tough, her performance in the episode “Dear Billy” alone deserved the nomination.

Atlanta

Atlanta is currently airing its fourth season, and while Donald Glover did get the nomination for Lead Actor In A Comedy Series, overall the season didn’t get nearly as many nominations as fans of the show expected.

Redditor JuanRiveara explained their criticism of this year’s Emmy nominations, “My biggest complaint would be Atlanta missing in a lot of places. I know this season was controversial due to the anthology episodes but it definitely deserved to get more than three nominations, especially a nomination for Bryan Tyree Henry who killed it this season.”

Mandy Moore (This Is Us)

Mandy Moore in This Is Us' penultimate episode

Possibly the biggest snub of 2022 was Mandy Moore for Best Actress In A Drama Series in the final season of This Is Us. Her performance as Rebecca Pearson for the past six seasons has been notoriously snubbed by the Emmys and the Golden Globes, with many of her co-stars getting nods in the process.

Reddit user Blazingscourge explained their disappointment with the lack of praise for Moore’s depiction of the Pearson matriarch and one of the best moms in television history: “It’s a shame that Mandy Moore didn’t get nominated for the last season of This Is Us. She was firing on all cylinders and made the last season wonderful.”
