Emily Blunt Supports A Nice Guys Sequel With Ryan Gosling & Wants To Be Involved

Emily Blunt supports the idea of a The Nice Guys sequel and wants to appear in it with her Fall Guy co-star Ryan Gosling. Gosling starred as private eye March Holland, who finds an unlikely ally in Russell Crowe’s brutal enforcer Jackson Healy when the pair are caught up in a conspiracy involving kidnapping, scandalous adult films, and government cover-ups in the 1970s.

With Gosling and Blunt set to share the screen when The Fall Guy releases in May, the two discussed the possibility of a Nice Guys sequel when speaking to Collider. While the conversation began jokingly between the two stars about Blunt stepping into Gosling’s role, the discussion turned more optimistic with Blunt saying she would appear for a cameo, as interviewer Steve Weintraub suggested speaking to Warner Bros, with both Blunt and Gosling agreeing. Check out the exchange below:

Gosling: Oh, no. That was so good. Can you just be me in the sequel?

Blunt: Yes! Oh my god, I’m in.It’s just me and Russell Crowe. That’s my dream.

Gosling: We’ll do, like, a Kickstarter.

Weintraub: I’m actually gonna send this to people at Warner Bros.

Blunt: No, no, no. Do it. I’m so in. I will turn up for a scene.

Gosling: Do it on Angry Birds stationery.

Was A The Nice Guys Sequel Ever In The Works?

The Ending Set Up New Possibilities

Emily Blunt Supports A Nice Guys Sequel With Ryan Gosling & Wants To Be Involved

While little thought had been put into a potential The Nice Guys sequel, the movie’s ending did leave things open for many more cases for Holland and Healy. Though they failed to bring the car manufacturing conspiracy to light and expose the truth behind the string of murders, the pair have struck a somewhat tumultuous friendship with plenty of opportunity. Rather than returning to going through their lives alone, Holland and Healy set up a new business, a detective agency fittingly named “The Nice Guys” that is ready to take on clients by the holiday season.

Despite this open-ended conclusion, director Shane Black never firmly committed to working on any The Nice Guys sequel ahead of its release, with the movie’s stiff box-office competition leading to some hesitation. While Gosling joked Angry Birds destroyed any sequel chances, The Nice Guy was also released alongside fellow comedy Neighbors 2 while already following Captain America: Civil War, creating a packed season in cinemas. While a clearer release window could have allowed The Nice Guys to prove itself, Holland and Healy’s debut was ultimately overshadowed.

With Gosling’s eye-catching performances in Barbie, Blade Runner 2077, and other features, The Nice Guys has earned more recognition. With its blend of intrigue and sharp-witted humor alongside Gosling and Crowe’s chemistry, a growing audience has seen the already positively praised movie. With renewed interest and the eagerness of Gosling and Blunt, perhaps a strong argument can be formed to call upon The Nice Guys to solve one more case.
