Emily Blunt is set to star in Pain Hustlers, a new criminal-conspiracy film from Fantastic Beasts and Harry Potter director David Yates. Blunt first broke through the pop culture sphere with her supporting turn in The Devil Wears Prada. After garnering much acclaim for the latter, her star rose and she soon began to headline major blockbusters. Now considered one of the world’s top movie stars, Blunt has more recently wowed audiences by leading Mary Poppins Returns, A Quiet Place, Jungle Cruise and many more. Entertainment aficionados are always eager to see what she does next.
According to Variety, Blunt will team up with Yates to make Pain Hustlers. Written by Wells Tower (The True American), the film is said to breakdown the long sought after chasing of the American dream akin to hit properties like American Hustle and The Wolf of Wall Street. Lawrence Grey (Yes Day, The Laundromat) will produce under his Grey Matter Productions banner alongside Wychwood Pictures. According to the publication, the movie’s official logline reads:
“Dreaming of a better life for her and her young daughter, Liza Drake (Blunt), a high-school dropout, lands a job with a failing pharmaceutical start-up in a yellowing strip mall in Central Florida. Liza’s charm, guts and drive catapult the company and her into the high life, where she soon finds herself at the center of a criminal conspiracy with deadly consequences.”
Pain Hustlers seems like its definitely within Blunt’s ever-growing wheelhouse. From playing unreliable protagonists in films like Girl on the Train to her grittier turns in the A Quiet Place franchise, Blunt seamlessly seesaws both vulnerability and comedic charm. It’s the balancing act an actor needs when playing a role that might aid in or do despicable things. Plus, Blunt working with fellow British powerhouse Yates is sure to bring everything to the next level, hopefully resulting in some propulsive movie magic.
