Worst: Never Grow Old (2019) – 5.8
This is Emile Hirsch’s second newest film, but unfortunately, it’s also in his bottom 5. This drama Western follows an Irish undertaker who profits when outlaws take over an American frontier town. However, his family is threatened as the deaths continue.
Emile Hirsch takes the lead alongside John Cusack, but clearly these two couldn’t save this flick from a 5.8/10 on IMDb. We all love a action-packed Western, though, so we’re sure it’s still entertaining.
Best: Twice Born (2012) – 7.4
This war drama is the Spanish romance you’ve always needed. Originally released in Italy and Spain, this film stars Penelope Cruz and Emile Hirsch. The story follows a mother who brings her teenage son to Sarajevo, the place where his father died in the Bosnian battle.
A 7.4 makes this Hirsch’s fifth-best flick, and we know you can’t pass up a war romance with these two stellar actors. Plus, it’s time to expand your horizons and take a look at a Spanish war flick.
Worst: An Evening with Beverly Luff Linn (2018) – 5.7
This crime comedy, like many others, fell victim to a low score on IMDb. Aubrey Plaza takes the leading role and plays Lulu Danger. Her unsatisfying marriage becomes even more complicated when a man from her past comes to town, and he’s there to perform “An Evening with Beverly Luff Linn; For One Magical Night Only”.
Yeah, we know it sounds bad, and it actually kind of is. However, Emile Hirsch is Shane Danger, and if you love these two and a pretty bad comedy, here you go. Otherwise, this is definitely one you might want to avoid.
Best: Lone Survivor (2013) – 7.5
We’re all familiar with this biography war drama. Mark Wahlberg takes the lead, and he and his team set out on a mission to capture a Taliban leader in 2005. However, they are left to fight for survival when they become trapped in intense warfare. Emile Hirsch is one of the team members, and honestly, this movie did pretty well with the critics.
It’s more of an American propaganda war flick, but it’s a story definitely worth telling. Plus, it’s a stunning film. It even scored two Oscar nominations, so we definitely suggest this one if you love Emile, war flicks, and action-packed goodness.
Worst: All Nighter (2017) – 5.7
This is another comedy that couldn’t quite impress the critics. Starring Analeigh Tipton, Emile Hirsch, and J.K. Simmons, the movie follows a workaholic father who tries to visit his daughter during a layover, but it turns out she’s disappeared. So, naturally, he teams up with her weird ex-boyfriend to find her.
This is a cringy adventure of internal journeys, but at least it’ll probably crack you up. It’s nothing spectacular and is one of Hirsch’s worst movies, but it’s still kind of comedic.
Best: Milk (2008) – 7.5
This biography drama stars Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, and Emile Hirsch. If you even need to know anything else, this film tells the story of Harvey Milk, an American gay rights activist who fought for gay rights and became California’s first openly gay elected official.
This is definitely a story that needs to be told, and this movie is wholesome and wonderful. It even won 2 Oscars, so we definitely suggest checking out this biography drama. The acting and story are phenomenal, and this flick will definitely lift your spirits.
Worst: Vincent N Roxxy (2016) – 5.5
You’ve probably heard of this crime drama, but it turns out it’s Emile Hirsch’s second lowest-rated film. A small town loner and a rebellious rocker try to find love on the run from a violent trend that seems to follow them everywhere.
Emile is the lead, and he has Zoe Kravitz and Zoey Deutch as his co-stars. This cast is actually unreal, but this movie just couldn’t follow through. It’s an interesting story, but clearly, they couldn’t do much to raise that score above a 5.5.
Best: Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood (2019) – 7.8
This is Emile Hirsch’s newest film, and it was also directed by the brilliant Quentin Tarantino. This movie stars Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, and Leonardo DiCaprio, who all play actors and stunt doubles trying to find fame in Hollywood’s Golden Age.
Emile Hirsch plays Jay Sebring, and he’s a secondary character along with Austin Butler, Al Pacino, and Timothy Olyphant. This movie takes an interesting crime turn (or Tarantino turn) and is seriously a masterful roller-coaster ride. You won’t be disappointed, and the acting is phenomenal by every single character in every single scene.
Worst: The Darkest Hour (2011) – 4.9
This is, unfortunately, the lowest-scoring film on the list. This action-adventure takes place in Moscow, where five young people must fight against an alien race who have attacked earth. Yes, it sounds super predictable and mediocre, and that’s probably why it only scored a 4.9/10 on IMDb.
Starring Emile Hirsch as the main man, clearly not even he could save this flick. It’s nothing special, and honestly, we can’t even recommend it for any type of entertainment. Hey, not every movie can be a hit, right?
Best: Into the Wild (2007) – 8.1
This is without a doubt Emile Hirsch’s most iconic role, and it probably will be forever. This biography adventure is based on the infamous book and tells the story of university graduate and athlete, Christopher McCandless, who abandons everything he has to embark on an adventure to Alaska. He hitchhikes there and lives in the wilderness, and along the way, encounters many influential people.
Directed by Sean Penn, Emile Hirsch is the starring role, and this movie is certainly worth your time. Nominated for 2 Oscars, this is the inspiring and riveting tale every single one of us would benefit from watching. This movie certainly deserves the #1 spot on this list.
