Before starring as Lucy in Fallout, Ella Purnell’s most recognizable TV role would be playing Jackie in Yellowjackets, a thriller that centers on the survivors of a high school soccer team after their plane crashes in the wilderness. Purnell’s character, Jackie, is portrayed as a “queen bee” type during the 1996 timeline, but conflict among her teammates eventually leads to Jackie’s tragic death in the Yellowjackets. Though Jackie returns in season 2 through hallucinations, Fallout’s massive popularity shows how much Yellowjackets season 3 needs Purnell back in some form.

Despite being a main character in Yellowjackets season 1, Jackie was limited to the ’90s timeline with no present-day counterpart like many other characters. In Fallout, Purnell gets a lot of the spotlight, allowing the show to develop Lucy from a naive Vault Dweller into a hardened survivor. Jackie never got that opportunity in Yellowjackets since her character was killed off before she could fully adapt to her surroundings. Yellowjackets Can Follow Season 2’s Formula With Jackie

Yellowjackets season 2 featured Jackie as a frozen corpse that the fellow survivors eventually ate. Beyond that, Shauna hallucinated Jackie as if she was still alive, allowing for Purnell’s recurring return in season 2 as an antagonistic presence. As time went on, it was evident that Shauna was communicating with Jackie as a coping mechanism as she processed the grief of the crash and the guilt linked to her friend’s death, which could continue in season 3. Based on where Yellowjackets season 3’s story is heading, it makes sense for Jackie to return in the form of visions.

After the stillbirth of her baby and the fact the shelter burned down, Shauna and the other survivors will be in a very dark place, leading to their feral behavior teased from the show’s first episode. Shauna seeing Jackie through visions would be understandable based on her mental state. It’s also possible Purnell’s Jackie could appear to adult Shauna in Yellowjackets season 3, considering the ongoing PTSD and recent death of Natalie. It’s unclear when Fallout season 2 will arrive, but seeing Purnell back in Yellowjackets in any form would make the wait a little easier.
