Elden Ring: Should You Side With Jerren Or Sellen

Elden Ring: Should You Side With Jerren Or Sellen

Before the conclusion of Sorcerer Sellen’s questline in Elden Ring, the Tarnished protagonist is faced with a difficult choice — siding with Sellen or Jerren, the Witch Hunter. Sellen is the Sorceress merchant that adventurers met during the start of their journey in Limgrave. After completing her tasks and learning a deal about her background and motives, many will come to like Sellen and appreciate her characteristics and personality in Elden Ring.

On the other hand, Witch-Hunter Jerren’s backstory is more obscure, shrouded by the fact the protagonist doesn’t spend much time with him compared with Sellen. Furthermore, his motives are less clear than Sellen’s, yet through Jerren, the Tarnished learns grim details of Sellen’s dark past with the Raya Lucaria Academy. Thus, after returning to the Grand Library, the player is met with the choice of either helping fulfill Sellen’s dream of restoring the academy into a new era or making her pay for her past by siding with Jerren.

While the decision between siding with Jerren or Sellen should primarily depend on the player’s preference and values, Tarnished adventurers should also be aware of the consequences that ensue either choice. Likewise, the rewards for both of the questline’s endings are vastly different, except for the Witch’s Glintstone Crown in Elden Ring, which can be received no matter the conclusion.

Choosing Jerren Or Sellen In Elden Ring

Elden Ring: Should You Side With Jerren Or Sellen

Those who decide to side with Jerren in Elden Ring must join him in his invasion into Sellen’s world at the Grand Library. Once the fight is over, Tarnished will receive the Intelligence-boosting Witch’s Glintstone Crown and Sellen’s Bell Bearing, which can be given to the Twin Maiden Husks to purchase any Spells available from Sellen up to that point. The Witch Hunter will also reward the player for their assistance with an Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone, a Legendary Upgrade Material required for reaching the max level of an armament. Afterward, the player can speak with him in front of the library’s entrance for some extra dialogue.

Siding with Sellen will naturally offer an entirely separate ending to her questline. Once Jerren has been put down, the protagonist will receive all four pieces of Jerren’s outfit in Elden Ring, the Eccentric Set. Sellen will then praise the Tarnished for their efforts and bless their future as Elden Lord. She also rewards the player with the Glintstone Kris, a dagger that can fire Glintstone Darts at enemies and becomes a powerful PvP weapon when fully upgraded. Furthermore, she will offer a new Sorcery in her shop called Shard Spiral, a spinning dual-projectile version of Glintstone Pebble that can penetrate and tear through enemies. However, the gleeful conclusion ends in sadness, as after the player reloads, Sellen will have tragically transformed into a miserable Arcane Sphere of Faces.

However, not all is bleak with Sellen’s sad ending, for the player can return to the locations of Master Lusat and Sorcerer Azur to acquire their powerful armor sets, the Lusat Set and Azur Set. Keep in mind that those who choose to help Jerren will not have this option after the questline ends.

Elden Ring is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
