Elden Ring Promises Increased Security Measures After Server Compromise

Fans worried that the upcoming Elden Ring might be delayed again thanks to a recent hack on FromSoftware’s servers can breathe easier as the developer has revealed the game will launch on February 25th with the necessary security measures. The new game from the creators of Dark Souls and Bloodborne promises the next game is the largest adventure yet. The game’s lore and world were crafted by Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin, and while many are excited to explore and learn about Elden Ring’s lore, others are more excited to play the game with up to three friends in the game’s enhanced multiplayer.

After Elden Ring’s closed network test last November, the select few who were lucky enough to try the demo got a good idea of how the anticipated title’s multiplayer will function. Much like previous games developed by FromSoftware, players can lay a summon sign on nearly any part of the game’s map, allowing friends to teleport into each other’s worlds. A new feature in Elden Ring allows players to create summoning pools, which should allow players to easily summon friends to create a four-person team to conquer Elden Ring’s challenges. Summoning friends also raises the chances that an enemy player could be summoned to invade a player’s world in the game’s high risk/high reward multiplayer format. However, a recent exploit has caused the servers of the first three Dark Souls games to be taken offline to prevent hackers from accessing players’ PCs, causing many to fear if Elden Ring’s similar multiplayer will suffer from the same issue.

This morning the developers of Elden Ring released a statement through the Dark Souls Twitter account that the game will be launching with the necessary security measures to ensure that players will be able to enjoy the new title without fears of being hacked. The update also revealed that the online services for Dark Souls on PC will not resume until after the launch of Elden Ring so that the team may focus on making the new game’s launch a smooth experience. FromSoftware will continue to update fans on the status of Dark Souls‘ online services through social media channels. The news should quell fans’ fears that the recent online issues would cause Elden Ring to be delayed once again.

Unlike FromSoftware’s previous games, Elden Ring will launch with Anti-Cheat software which automatically detects gamers attempting to cheat using hacks or unfair mods. The decision to launch the game with such software should help fans enjoy the new game without having to worry about cheaters or hackers. However, the Easy Anti-Cheat software Elden Ring will use will not help players against the game’s challenging enemies or invading players who are following the rules.

As the release date of Elden Ring draws closer, anticipation levels continue to grow thanks to today’s statement ensuring fans that online issues will not be preventing the game from releasing on February 25th. While FromSoftware’s games are known for challenging players to evolve and learn from mistakes to progress, no one was prepared to deal with the frustration of a player’s PC becoming compromised due to playing Dark Souls. Thanks to the developer’s efforts, fans ready to perish in Elden Ring should not have to worry about hackers ruining players’ enjoyment.

Elden Ring releases February 25th on PlayStation 4|5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
