Elden Ring Players Pull A Clever Trick To Destroy Hapless Invader

A group of Elden Ring players managed to brutally ambush an invading player using a sneaky trick. Like past FromSoftware role-playing games, the open-world epic allows players to compete or cooperate using a number of immersive multiplayer mechanics. Elden Ring multiplayer includes PvP, letting brave Tarnished seek out an even greater challenge by facing off against other players across The Lands Between.

Following past FromSoftware titles like Dark Souls and Bloodborne, the multiplayer features in Elden Ring allow players to interact across separate single-player worlds. Messages both helpful and humorous can be left for others, and bloodstains serve as a warning by revealing how other Tarnished were killed in a location. Summoning leads to even more direct interaction by letting players cooperate to defeat bosses, while invading lets Tarnished challenge each other in combat. While FromSoftware’s tried-and-true multiplayer system has worked for soulslikes of past, some gamers believe that Elden Ring co-op could be better if players were allowed to actually explore The Lands Between together.

Reddit user NikWarlord recently learned the unpredictability of multiplayer in Elden Ring. Apparently invading another player for the very first time, the Tarnished adventurer sees their foe standing within the heavy mist of Liurnia. This Host of Fingers flees around the Boilprawn Shack after taunting their foe, and NikWarlord quickly pursues the target. However, upon turning the corner NikWarlord is suddenly ambushed by two other players who had used the Mimic’s Veil to disguise themselves as bushes. NikWarlord is quickly killed by a shocking whirlwind of blades, demonstrating the versatility of Elden Ring’s multiplayer system.

First time invading someone… from Eldenring

While Elden Ring’s multiplayer does allow for surprising encounters and jolly cooperation, many fans want to see the open-world epic push the system further. A leaked Elden Ring coliseum, for example, could allow for larger and more organized battles between different players. Fans speculate that the coliseum area could make an appearance as future downloadable content, with the theoretical expansion primarily revolving around multiplayer combat. FromSoftware does have a history of creating downloadable content, and the massive popularity of Elden Ring makes the creation of post-launch content even more likely.

While NikWarlord’s first invasion went poorly, the defeat likely served as an unforgettable lessen for the Tarnished warrior. FromSoftware’s soulslike titles offer players a variety of different tools and weapons, and these resources can be used to shocking effect during multiplayer encounters. Using one player as bait for a bush-based ambush was a clever trick, though it unfortunately led to NikWarlord’s demise. Further expanding the RPG’s online systems, as demonstrated by an Elden Ring coliseum PvP mod, could create even more unique situations for players.

Elden Ring is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
