Elden Ring: How To Get Lhutel the Headless Spirit Ashes

One of the best Legendary Spirit Ashes in Elden Ring that Tarnished can acquire early on in their journey is Lhutel the Headless, a Mausoleum Knight that can vanish and teleport short distances in combat. Lhutel the Headless’s unique ability to elusively flash at will and hurl spectral lances at foes makes this Spirit Summon an incredibly powerful ally. Furthermore, the FP cost in Elden Ring is relatively low at 104 points.

Lhutel the Headless can be acquired by defeating the Cemetery Shade at the Tombsward Catacombs in the Weeping Peninsula. To reach this location, Tarnished must travel south from Limgrave and cross the Bridge of Sacrifice into the peninsula sub-region. Ride southward until arriving at the Castle Morne Rampart and then trek northwest to the Ailing Village Outskirts. Cross the wooden bridge guarded by a Demi-Human Assassin and head up the path towards the Church of Pilgrimage. After reaching the church, go down the wide slope in the southwest. To the player’s right sits the Tombsward Ruins, and the Tombsward Catacombs will be located directly to the east of these ruins.

After entering the Tombsward Catacombs in Elden Ring, Tarnished will notice a clouded seal with an Imp Seal Statue. A Stonesword Key is not required to progress this Dungeon and is only needed if the player wishes to get the Nomadic Warrior’s Cookbook [9].

From the Imp Seal Statue, go down the stairwell on the left to find the boss’s lair locked behind a door. To open it, Tarnished must activate a lever hidden within the Tombsward Catacombs. Turn right and go through the small room while mindful of the skeleton. Continue down the corridors guarded by several more skeletons to find a hallway with a fiery trap at the end. This trap can be deactivated by firing an arrow or casting a long-ranged spell at it. Alternatively, Tarnished can hide in the small alcove on the left, but be careful of the skeleton ambush in Elden Ring.

After the fire trap descends, jump on top of it and strike it again to reach the hidden floor above. Go down two passages to find a statue with a lever. Pull the lever and return to the Tombsward Catacombs entrance to fight the Cemetery Shade. The Cemetery Shade is very squishy and can be easily staggered when attacked by multiple opponents such as the Lone Wolves Ashes. However, be wary of its high-damage bleeding slashes that can one or two-shot-kill low-level adventurers. Once defeated, the Cemetery Shade will drop the Lhutel the Headless Spirit Ashes in Elden Ring.
