Elden Ring: How To Complete Iron Fist Alexander’s Questline

Elden Ring: How To Complete Iron Fist Alexander’s Questline

One of the most beloved and iconic characters of Elden Ring is the whimsical Living Jar, Iron Fist Alexander. Also known as Alexander the Warrior Jar, this NPC can be first encountered near the main northern road of Limgrave in Stormhill. Atop the small ridge south of Saintsbridge, he can be found calling out to the protagonist for aid in getting unstuck from the pothole he’s sunken into. Tarnished can help this NPC by striking his rear twice to free him. Once liberated, Alexander will reward the player with a new Gesture, Triumphant Delight, and a damage-boosting Exalted Flesh. This first encounter will begin Alexander’s questline in Elden Ring.

Next, Tarnished can travel to Gael Tunnel, a Dungeon located south of the Smoldering Church in Caelid. If adventurers enter the cave from the Rear Gael Tunnel Entrance, they will find Alexander’s second location but won’t be able to open the door to his room. This locked door can only be opened on the other side by reaching the end of the Dungeon via the entrance south of Rotview Balcony. Keep in mind that the Magma Wyrm boss does not need to be defeated to meet with Alexander.

Within Gael Tunnel, the determined Warrior Jar in Elden Ring will tell the protagonist of his plans to go to Redmane Castle and participate in an upcoming festival, indicating where he will relocate next. Once Tarnished have reached an adequate character and equipment upgrade level, they too can head to Redmane Castle to participate in the Radahn Festival. Alexander can be found standing in the plaza listening to Herald Jerren’s announcement of the gala’s commencement. During the battle with the Starscourge General, the player can summon several different NPCs, including Iron Fist Alexander. However, he does not need to be summoned to progress his tale. Once the boss fight is over, Tarnished can speak to him to hear his desire to become a stronger warrior.

Iron Fist Alexander’s Questline Locations In Elden Ring

Suppose Tarnished have failed to meet with Alexander before vanquishing Starscourge Radahn. In that case, they can encounter the Iron Fist in a spot south of the Carian Study Hall in Liurnia of the Lakes, near the cliffside jump puzzle leading to the Jarburg hamlet. He will be stuck in the ground like before, but the protagonist must fulfill an extra step to help free him this time. Alexander will mention that something “slippery” would help ease him out of the hole. He is referring to an Oil Pot or Roped Oil Pot, throwable recipes that can be learned by obtaining the Nomadic Warrior’s Cookbook [17]. This Cookbook can be purchased from the hidden Nomadic Merchant in Siofra River for 1,000 Runes. To find this merchant, ride north from the Siofra River Bank Site of Grace to the second set of pillars that connect a collapsed overpass. Ascend the ladders and wooden platforms to find a small passageway behind a waterfall leading to a hidden chamber with the Elden Ring merchant. Oil Pots can be crafted using a Cracked Pot and one Melted Mushroom.

Return to Alexander in Liurnia and douse his body in oil. One or two hits should successfully pop him out. He will thank the player and provide them with the same emote and consumable if they haven’t encountered him before in Limgrave. Afterward, the Living Jar will reveal his next stop in the Lands Between to Mt. Gelmir, specifically in the fiery summit where he wishes to “forge himself anew in its flames.” Therefore, the next location Tarnished should travel to is the Altus Plateau. It should be noted that some Elden Ring fans have mentioned that he may not appear for them in West Liurnia. In this instance, players should continue their journey to the Altus Plateau to find him on Mt. Gelmir.

To further advance Alexander’s questline in Elden Ring, Tarnished must make their way up Mt Gelmir, starting from the mouth of Seethewater River. After following the trail to Seethewater Terminus, ride past the frontline defenses of Fort Laied to the Magma Wyrm Field Boss’s molten pool. It might be somewhat tricky to spot him at first, but Alexander can be found standing in the lava behind the slanted rock formation on the left side, facing eastward. Although it’s not necessary to slay the Magma Wyrm to speak with the Iron Fist, Tarnished are recommended to be cautious of getting dialogue-locked into place while the lava dragon is aggroed. Furthermore, if the Magma Wyrm has been defeated, players can stand atop the rock while talking with Alexander instead of chatting with him knee-high in molten magma.

Elden Ring How To Finish Alexander’s Questline

Next, Tarnished must progress through the world map to the Mountaintops of the Giant. Before reaching the Forge of the Giants, Elden Ring fans must defeat the Fire Giant guarding the snowy slope. However, if they’ve followed Alexander’s questline up to this point, they can summon him as an ally by interacting with his golden summoning sign at the northern entrance of the boss arena. To find it, enter the Fire Giant’s lair from the giant chain walkway on the left and look around for Alexander’s sign near the mist. Still, like the battle with Radahn, summoning the Iron Fist for help is not necessary to advance his story.

The final location of Iron Fist Alexander’s tale is Crumbling Farum Azula, atop a giant floating piece of rubble near the Dragon Temple. To reach him, Tarnished must defeat the Godskin Duo at the Dragon Temple Altar. Next, they must make their way to the Dragon Temple Lift, which leads to the upper courtyard. Continue along the path to find him standing, arms crossed, awaiting his final battle in Elden Ring.

The Warrior Jar’s last and sincere request is to challenge Tarnished in a duel to see whether his extensive training has paid off. Alexander will put up a courageous fight, yet the player should be much stronger than him by this time, resulting in his demise. As a reward for giving him a warrior’s death, he will provide the protagonist with his innards and the Shard of Alexander, a powerful Talisman that increases Weapon Skill damage by 15%. This triumphant yet mournful event marks the end of Iron Fist Alexander’s journey in Elden Ring.

Elden Ring is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
