Elden Ring Demake Brings The Lands Between To Game Boy

An Elden Ring fan is currently in the midst of developing a demake of the popular game for the original Game Boy. FromSoftware’s latest outing is also by far its biggest, with some players feeling that Elden Ring takes forever to complete due to the incredible amount of content packed into it.

Anyone who has started playing Elden Ring is likely aware of just how massive and complicated it is. The winding roads and complex topography of The Lands Between make traversing the massive open-world a one-of-a-kind experience that can take hundreds of hours to fully unpack. The game is visually stunning as well, with arresting art design that can be observed in its many locations, enemies, weapons, NPCs, and more. Although Elden Ring‘s graphical fidelity may not be on the same level as other contemporary, linear titles like God of War or The Last of Us Part II, it is still a modern game in just about every way, as elements like its massive draw distance and intricate level of detail demonstrate.

It was just recently that an Elden Ring PS1 demake trailer emerged, but a Reddit user calling themselves -shin- (via Games Radar) aims to take this concept a step further with a Game Boy demake. A clip of the demake was shared with the Elden Ring subreddit recently, and appears to cover the opening segment of the game, just before the longer tutorial portion. It is through this clip that players can get a short glimpse into what this demake looks like, as the player character moves through the pixelated environment, views a 2D version of the Erdtree, and takes on the Grafted Scion boss. This boss kills the player character, as it often does in the real game, and the demake proceeds to show the iconic “You Died” message on-screen. In the description, -shin- states that this demake will run natively on Game Boy hardware.

I’m making an Elden Ring demake for the Game Boy! It will work on real hardware! from Eldenring

It’s unlikely that this demake can fully replicate features like Elden Ring‘s complex magic systems or build diversity, but it seems to capture the spirit of the game surprisingly well. If -shin- can manage to maintain this attention to detail throughout the entire project, it will certainly be an interesting Elden Ring novelty.

Given how much fan-made content has been inspired by it, it’s somewhat hard to believe that Elden Ring has been out for less than two months. As more players work their way through the game in the coming weeks, months, and years, it’s likely that even more unique and impressive Elden Ring demakes, fan art, cosplays, theories, and more will appear.
