Dune Author’s Son Endorses Movie First Look Image

After seeing the first image of the upcoming Dune film, based on the book by Frank Herbert, the author’s son took to Twitter to voice his support. Just today, Warner Bros. released the first look at Dune, which is scheduled for a December 18, 2020 release. The movie is directed by Denis Villeneuve, who has previously directed Blade Runner 2049 and Arrival.

Herbert’s son Brian posted his personal endorsement on Twitter today. Addressing Dune fans, he shared his own excitement at seeing the first image from the movie, saying, “My father would be incredibly proud!” The classic science-fiction book originally came out in 1965 and tells the story of a distant future in which a feudal empire has developed, with noble families fighting to own and colonize planets for resources.

The first look image features Timothée Chalamet as the lead character, Paul Atreides. The cast also includes Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, and Oscar Isaac, among others. The film is intended to be part of a series of films, with Villeneuve’s movie only covering the first half of the Dune book. Herbert, who passed in 1986, wrote five sequels, so there’s plenty of material.

The book was originally adapted in 1984 by David Lynch, but it wasn’t very well-received. Villeneuve has stated that his film will be entirely different from Lynch’s version, and the cast are commending his empowering take on the characters of Dune. Considering Herbert’s son Brian has also written various sequels within the Dune universe and will be co-writing the upcoming graphic novel, his support, and assurance that his father would approve, is high praise for the upcoming movie.
