Dune 2’s Paul vs. Feyd-Rautha Fight Scene Will Easily Beat The First Movie In One Big Way

Dune 2’s Paul vs. Feyd-Rautha Fight Scene Will Easily Beat The First Movie In One Big Way

Paul Atreides’ eagerly anticipated fight scene with House Harkonnen’s Feyd-Rautha will help Dune: Part Two outshine Dune: Part One in one major way. The long-awaited sequel, which will continue Paul’s narrative as established by Frank Herbert’s classic Dune novels, is already looking to be a big improvement on the first, as it has promised an uptick in action sequences, a broader setting scope, and a deeper exploration of the characters set up in Dune: Part One. Not to mention, returning director Denis Villeneuve claims Dune 2 will be better than his original installment.

Dune 2’s epic developments have been hyped by a batch of promotional materials that tease everything from Paul finally riding a sandworm to the Fremen uniting in a tremendous brigade. As of late, Dune 2 has released a collection of images, one of which continues the trend of baiting audiences with clips of Paul and Feyd-Rautha’s impending duel. Similar to how Dune 2’s trailers depict it, the image portrays the intensity of Paul and Feyd-Rautha’s conflict, which guarantees, like many aspects of the sequel, that their fight will help Dune 2 outdo Dune: Part One, especially in one way.

Dune 2’s Paul Atreides vs. Feyd-Rautha Fight Will Likely Beat Paul vs. Jamis From Part 1

Dune 2’s Paul vs. Feyd-Rautha Fight Scene Will Easily Beat The First Movie In One Big Way

Paul was engaged in a hand-to-hand combat scene once before when the Fremen warrior Jamis challenged him to a duel in Dune: Part One. Jamis opposed Paul and his mother’s admission into the Fremen sietch, which initiated a fight scene that would prove Paul to be a worthy fighter in the eyes of the Fremen and audiences. The scene played out excellently, utilizing Paul’s naive moral nature and the to-the-death formalities of the duel to build intensity, but even so, the Paul versus Jamis fight scene didn’t have enough to measure up to Paul’s imminent battles.

In Dune 2, Paul will have to subdue sandworms, rally the Fremen for the final battle for Arakeen, and, as the franchise has long promoted, fight Austin Butler’s Feyd-Rautha. Feyd-Rautha will hold a lot of weight in the sequel as he is both the bloodthirsty, highly skilled Harkonnen sent out to execute Paul and Dune 2’s spotlighted antagonist. With more at stake on the line, not just for Paul but for the Dune franchise itself, Paul’s next hand-to-hand combat scene is sure to best his last fight scene with Jamis by a landslide.

Why Dune 2’s Paul vs. Feyd-Rautha Duel Will Be So Important

Paul and Feyd-Rautha’s duel will also be a shining moment in Dune 2 because it’ll mark a pivotal moment in the grand scheme of the franchise’s story. As the Baron’s nephew and House Harkonnen’s chosen delegate to lead after they’ve overtaken the planet, Arrakis, Feyd-Rautha is a prominent political figure in Dune canon, at one point, even ascending into the barony after the death of Vladimir Harkonnen. When Paul and Feyd-Rautha lock blades, it becomes a moment of history for Arrakis and much of the Known Universe.

In canon, the duel between Paul and Feyd-Rautha instigates the downfall of the House Harkonnen and their plot for power. It also sets up Paul for growth as a leader well beyond the confines of Herbert’s first novel and, hopefully, Villeneuve’s second movie installment. Thus far, Dune: Part Two is looking to beat out its predecessor with a movie that is a cut above, but only time will tell if the sequel will succeed enough to set a pattern in developing Paul’s narrative with increasingly better installments down the line.
