Dreams Players Have Made an Entire TV Series In the PS4 Game

Players within Dreams have created an entire animated TV show that will be funded through Kickstarter. Media Molecule’s Dreams has come a long way to provide players with the ability to create whatever they want on the platform. Players can find everything from adventure games to music videos in Dreams. Furthermore, creators can take creations and “remix” them to suit their projects, building on what others already produced.

Media Molecule has said that it plans for Dreams to be its focus for the foreseeable future. Though the game has yet to receive a dedicated PS5 upgrade, the developer eventually wants to make Dreams available outside the PlayStation ecosystem. Sony has already laid the groundwork for a future PC port by securing a development studio dedicated to porting games to personal computers. Moreover, Sony already ported Horizon Zero Dawn, which received a PS5 update, and other formerly exclusive PlayStation games within the past year. More games are slated to make the jump to PC, too, including Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.

During Gamescom 2021, the independent animation group Cyber Sheep Film debuted a new trailer for its Dreams-made animated TV show, Noguchi’s Bell. It can now be viewed on GamesRadar‘s YouTube page. Everything in the trailer shown is made in Dreams, using only a PlayStation controller to design and animate the characters and environments. Noguchi’s Bell is among the first projects in Dreams supported by Media Molecule to earn a beta commercial license. This means that Cyber Sheep Film can post its episodes outside of Dreams and profit from the project. Noguchi’s Bell will be funded through Kickstarter – the first project on the platform allowed to do so. according to the studio’s Kickstarter page, Cyber Sheep Film is looking for roughly $39,000 for each 15-minute episode. Backers will get special prints, concept art and more exclusive perks for supporting the project.

The animation studio is made up of over a dozen creators in Dreams from across the globe. While the studio isn’t officially established outside of the game, the creators hope to eventually turn Cyber Sheep Film into a legitimate studio in the future. It also wants to show that a high-end PC isn’t needed to create quality animated projects. “My goal is to show the world that you don’t need to have a high-end PC or connection in the film industry to bring your passion project to life. Our team is hoping that this project will be Cyber Sheep Film’s first step toward being a fully realized animation studio,” says Michael Pachidamrong, the creative director of Cyber Sheep Film.

Dreams continues to evolve with each passing year. Media Molecule is currently looking to expand the platform even more with new hires for dedicated engine engineers to continue developing its game engine. With projects like Noguchi’s Bell, one has to wonder what the future of Dreams might look like if more creations reach the level of realism and creativity that can already be found on the platform.

Dreams is available now on PS4 and PS5.
