Drax the Destroyer’s New Costume Is Even More Terrifying Than When He Became Venom

Drax the Destroyer’s New Costume Is Even More Terrifying Than When He Became Venom

Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Guardians of the Galaxy #10!Drax the Destroyer is a powerful cosmic warrior who was originally created for the sole purpose of killing Thanos, which only serves to prove how truly terrifying his raw strength really is. Despite that, Drax has never really looked that terrifying. The closest he came to conveying fear through his appearance alone was when Drax briefly became Venom. But now, Drax’s new costume has topped even his Klyntar form, as it is absolute nightmare fuel.

In Guardians of the Galaxy #10 by Collin Kelly, Jackson Lanzing, and Kev Walker, the Guardians of the Galaxy have joined Grootfall within the newly constituted Grootspace. Earlier this series, Grootfall (a cosmically colossal Groot assimilating entire worlds within a region of the galaxy) was considered a dangerous villain. However, the Guardians have since learned the opposite is true, and no one has connected more with Grootfall than Drax.

While the other Guardians have officially taken up residence in Grootspace, Drax has actually merged with it on a deeper level. So much so that Drax has acquired Groot-armor, which he wears while fighting the Spartax army, who still see Groot as a cosmic threat. Drax’s new Groot-armor is equipped with full-body protection and a chilling mask that’s sure to give everyone nightmares – friend and foe alike.

How Does Drax’s New Groot-Armor Compare to His Venomized Form?

Guardians of the Galaxy #22 by Brian Michael Bendis, Valerio Schiti, and David Lopez

Venomized Drax from Guardians of the Galaxy.

When Flash Thompson’s Venom joined the Guardians of the Galaxy for a stretch, he didn’t realize how erratically his symbiote would act once taken to certain regions of space. During a mission, Flash lost control over the Venom symbiote, and it went crazy, attacking the other Guardians. Not only that – Venom starts possessing them.

Venom possesses Groot, and then Rocket, before finally landing on Drax the Destroyer. While each one of those Venomized Guardians was chilling, to be sure, Drax stood out as the most terrifying Venom. Black and red skin with sharp teeth and a sinister grin, with seemingly nothing behind his eyes but the quivering anticipation for horrific violence is all readers see upon looking at the Venomized Drax.

Somehow, Drax’s Groot-Armor Actually Tops His Venomized Form

Drax Groot-armor vs Venomized Drax.

It’s true that Venomized Drax is horrific, but there’s something deeply unsettling about his Groot-armor that his Venomized form can’t compete with. Like an elder forest creature awakened from an ancient sleep within the dark depths of a cursed wood, Groot-armor Drax is viscerally terrifying in a way that seemingly charts back to the very origins of fear within the human psyche. Not only that, but Drax only wears this armor when he intends to commit violence against those who would challenge him and the Guardians, meaning he only puts this armor on when he means for someone to die.

Arguably the best part about Drax’s new Groot-armor is that it’s seemingly here to stay. This is a new chapter for the Guardians of the Galaxy, one that’s sure to redefine the team forever moving forward. And within that new chapter, Drax the Destroyer gets an all-new costume that’s even more terrifying than when he became Venom.
