Dragon Ball’s Greatest Villains Show Off Their Fighting Forms In Unique New Fanart

Dragon Ball’s Goku has saved the world countless times over, with his greatest struggles coming during his epic clashes against Frieza, Cell, Buu, and the powerful team known as the Ginyu Force. Fortunately, these villains were all defeated, but they went through more than a few transformations in their vile attempts at world domination, with Frieza, Cell, Buu, and the Ginyu Force getting a clever fanart makeover that turns them into something never seen before — nesting dolls!

A set of posts shared on Instagram by Kidd (@wesatinthecar), this talented artist is all about bringing the sprawling cast of Dragon Ball to the masses with refreshingly fun and amusing fanart that brings out the series more lighthearted side.

Mixing Pokemon into the world of Dragon Ball, creating chibi versions of the series’ best characters, and redesigning numerous Hollywood posters for the Saiyans in the audience, Kidd uses their spot-on Dragon Ball art style to mimic the late and great Akira Toriyama while bringing their own artistic flair to these images that only they can provide.

Frieza, Cell, Buu, and the Ginyu Force Become Nesting Dolls In Inspired Fanart

Fanart Designs By @wesatinthecar

One a space tyrant, the other a perfectly engineered monster, and the third an ancient evil hellbent on destruction, Frieza, Cell, and Majin Buu, respectively, have iconic character designs that change each time they reach a new level of power, with the Ginyu Force’s appeal thriving on their distinct visual and personality differences across the team’s five powerful members. Transforming into even stronger versions of themselves (save for the line-up of the Ginyu Force), Frieza, Cell, and Buu have eleven forms between the three of them, with each perfectly making the transition into nesting doll form.

Repurposing Frieza, Cell, Buu, and their various forms as the nesting doll’s signature “doll within a doll” shells, Kidd makes each ascending transformation instantly recognizable despite each “doll” being sliced in two. Showing Frieza from his first form to his final iteration, Cell’s transformational journey striving for perfection, and Buu’s eternal struggle with the many facets of himself, Kidd even gives the Ginyu Force’s Ginyu, Recoome, Burter, Jeice, and Guildo, the nesting doll treatment, with each member acting as a new hidden doll layer for fans to uncover.

Dragon Ball‘s Villains Get Unique New Fanart Featuring Their Best Transformations

A great idea for novelty items that everyone can get behind, Kidd cleverly paying homage to Dragon Ball’s best villains and their most iconic forms makes for a set of images that not only succeed in nailing the look and feel of these characters but also puts a fun spin on how their transformations can be interpreted as in the creative space. Frieza, Cell, Buu, and the Ginyu Force were once forces to be reckoned with in the Dragon Ball universe, with these “nesting doll” redesigns offering an inspired take on their enduring villainous legacies.

Dragon Ball

From the creative mind of Akira Toriyama, Dragon Ball is a mega multimedia franchise that spans back to the 1980s. Dragon Ball expanded quickly, starting as a serialized manga for Weekly Shonen Jump in Japan. It made its way overseas via manga and an anime adaptation that is enjoyed worldwide. Dragon Ball was the initial starting animated series that followed the adventures of the young Son Goku as he sought after the Dragon Balls. These mystical orbs would grant the wish of any who gathered them together. Then, the series would branch off into the immensely popular Dragon Ball Z, which followed Goku as an adult and featured high-intensity battles and Goku’s never-ending search to be the strongest. The series has also enjoyed several popular video game adaptations and continues to release several new animated series and theatrical films up to the recent popular Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero.
