Dragon Ball Super’s New Villain Debuts in Preview For Next Chapter

Warning: contains a preview for chapter #89 of Dragon Ball Super

The official preview for chapter #89 of Dragon Ball Super shows the debut of a brand-new villain, Android Beta. This character did not appear in the movie Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero and was thus created specifically for the manga, which is currently showing a prequel story to the successful film.

Ever since Goku crossed paths with the Red Ribbon Army as a kid, this evil paramilitary organization has been using androids as advanced weapons. The first one that Goku met was the gentle and peace-loving Android 8, but in Dragon Ball Z the scientist Dr. Gero created much more dangerous versions of the androids, culminating in his “perfect creature”, Cell, who almost destroyed Earth. In the movie Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, the Red Ribbon Army returns, and Gero’s grandson, Hedo, creates even more powerful androids, Gamma 1, Gamma 2, and Cell Max. Before he developed the Gamma series, however, Dr. Hedo created less advanced versions of his androids, who made their debut in the Dragon Ball Super manga.

The Alpha series was quite weak, and they were easily and quickly defeated by Trunks in chapter #88. A preview of chapter #89 of Dragon Ball Super, released on the Dragon Ball official website and translated by the always reliable @DBSChronicles, shows the debut of Hedo’s following creation, Beta. This new android looks like a perfectly normal human boy, and he is apparently infiltrating the high school attended by Trunks and Goten, after the two Saiyan boys left behind a school crest in Hedo’s secret base.

Android Beta Could Be The Main Villain Of This Dragon Ball Super Arc

It’s unclear how strong Beta could be. The Alpha series was embarrassingly weak, but the Gammas who appear in the movie are the exact opposite, as they are the mightiest androids ever created, possibly on par with Goku and Vegeta. While the two Gamma were created using the Red Ribbon Army’s vast resources, the Alphas were assembled by Hedo using parts of human corpses, and in fact they look a lot like zombies. Beta, on the other hand, has a human appearance, similar to Android 17 and Android 18. If he is nearly as powerful as those two, Trunks and Goten will have a hard time dealing with him, considering that they have not been training over the past years as their fathers did.

The rest of the preview shows that Trunks is able to decrypt the files he stole from Dr. Hedo and gets a glimpse of the Cell Max blueprints, but he is unable to recognize it, as when the original Cell appeared he was still a baby. Trunks’ only concern at the moment seems to be impressing his crush Mai, so it’s likely that he will be taken by surprise by the new villain, Android Beta. The full chapter #89 of Dragon Ball Super will be released on January 19.
