Dragon Ball Super Hero Movie Releases First Promo & Reveals Release Date

A teaser and a 2022 release date have been announced for the new Dragon Ball film titled Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. The Japanese media franchise began in 1984 by Akira Toriyama. The franchise started as a manga, which went on to spawn six anime series thus far. This IP ultimately became one of the most popular manga and anime series of all time, particularly the show, Dragon Ball Z.

Dragon Ball Super follows the original Dragon Ball manga as it focuses on the iconic character, Goku. It takes place during the time jump after Majin Buu is taken down. In this iteration, Goku has gained god powers and is learning how to control these new incredible abilities. When taking into consideration all of the films across the franchise, there are a total of twenty anime films. However, there’s currently only one in the Super universe, titled Dragon Ball Super: Broly, which was released in 2018. The next installment Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero was announced earlier this year.

DBHype posted the new reveal teaser for Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. While this clip doesn’t reveal too much, it does show Goku doing some training along with a reveal of the title logo. The very end of the teaser officially announces that the movie will be released in 2022, but that exact release date information could depend on country and region. Similar to other highly popular anime series, Dragon Ball has a very loyal fan base. While many are excited to see the new film, a lot of the social media conversation has been discussing the animation style. An abundance of anime series have taken on a 3D CGI appearance, which is often criticized online. Especially after the previous Dragon Ball Super film’s gorgeous animation, it’s clear that they jumped ship to join the 3D CGI group. However, this teaser doesn’t show too much, so audiences will have to wait to see the full extent of how it will look in the finished film.

Regardless of the animation, any diehard Dragon Ball fan is going to see the movie. The 2022 film will continue the story from the anime series that stopped making new episodes as of 2018. The title Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero really places emphasis on the “super,” which likely refers to a superhero vibe that the movie is going for. While there are still a lot more details to be released, it should be reassuring for fans to now have an official release year.
