Dragon Ball Super Confirms It Will Not Come Back Soon, Entering Indefinite Hiatus

Fans of Dragon Ball Super who rejoiced in hearing that the series would continue soon despite Akira Toriyama’s tragic passing have just received a very disappointing update. It seems that Dragon Ball Super has actually entered an indefinite hiatus, as the new chapter is no longer scheduled to appear in V Jump‘s May 2024 issue.

As reported by the fan news account Shonen Jump News on X, MANGA Plus is no longer listing Dragon Ball Super as coming back in May 2024. Instead, the popular digital manga app – which publishes the chapters of Dragon Ball Super internationally, now lists the series simply as “on a hiatus”.

Dragon Ball Super Confirms It Will Not Come Back Soon, Entering Indefinite Hiatus

When chapter #103 of Dragon Ball Super came out, the last written by Akira Toriyama, fans rejoiced in seeing not only a “to be continued” tag on the final page, but also MANGA Plus adding a regularly scheduled date for the following chapter, as it does for all its ongoing series. Dragon Ball Super was supposed to come back in May, thus giving the series and the remaining author, Toyotarou, one extra month to, hopefully, process the passing of Toriyama and plan the next saga.

Instead, Dragon Ball Super seems to be on indefinite hiatus now, and there is no indication of when it will come back. This, however, doesn’t mean that the series will not continue. It could simply be that Toyotarou needs – and deserves – more time to process the passing of a man he considered his idol and master, or maybe the entire Dragon Ball team needs time to decide in which direction they should bring the franchise now.

Regardless, this still comes as shocking news for fans, and so soon after their hopes were brought up. However, they should not despair, as Dragon Ball Super can still continue, but fans will have to wait a little more for it to come back.
