Drag Race Down Under: Kylie Minogue, Taika Waititi To Appear As Judges

The first-ever season of RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under will feature celebrity guest judges such as pop legend Kylie Minogue and Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi. After conquering the United States market and snatching a record-breaking number of Emmy Awards, the Drag Race franchise keeps on expanding. The series was first adapted in Thailand and in the United Kingdom. But since then, many other international editions have been greenlit by production company World of Wonder, such as Canada’s Drag RaceDrag Race Holland, and Drag Race España. Now, RuPaul is taking her queendom Down Under.

The first season of RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under, which will feature queens from both Australia and New Zealand, will premiere May 1 on the WOW Presents Plus streaming service. The cast is made up of Anita Wigl’it, Art Simone, Coco Jumbo, Elektra Shock, Etcetera Etcetera, Jojo Zaho, Karen From Finance, Kita Mean, Maxi Shield, and Scarlet Adams. Joining RuPaul and Michelle Visage in the main judging panel will be Australian comedian Rhys Nicholson. Alas, in true Drag Race fashion, the series will also feature several celebrities as guest judges.

As reported by EW, two celebrity guests for the Drag Race Down Under spin-off have now been officially announced. One of them is Australian pop star Kylie Minogue, best known for hit songs like “The Loco-Motion”, “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head”, “I Should Be So Lucky”, “It’s No Secret”, and more. In 2020, Kylie made the world dance (from home) to the sound of her brand-new album, Disco. For the Drag Race judging panel, Kylie will be joined by her sister, Dannii Minogue. Many fans had asked for Kylie Minogue to appear in the series, so this is great news to many.

The other celebrity guest that will be appearing on this new Drag Race Down Under series will be director, writer, and comedian Taika Waititi. This multi-talented filmmaker, who is from New Zealand, is best known for films such as What We Do In The ShadowsThor: Ragnarok, and Jojo Rabbit. Waititi is currently working on the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, Thor: Love and Thunder, which will feature Chris Hemsworth reprising his role as the titular character.

With such high-profile guest judges, it is clear that Mama Ru is pulling all the stops for RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under season 1. The fans can’t wait to see the one and only Kylie Minogue and the hilarious Taika Waititi giving feedback to a bunch of drag queens.
