Former Twitch streamer Dr Disrespect has congratulated Spanish Fortnite streamer Grefg on breaking a Twitch viewership record. Herschel “Guy” Beam IV, better known by his online alias Dr Disrespect, became an immensely popular Twitch streamer before being banned from the platform last year. Grefg, real name Gregory Cánovas Martínez, is a popular Fortnite streamer based in Spain.
Grefg recently made headlines by breaking multiple records on Twitch, including all-time most concurrent viewers for a single streamer and most concurrent views during an Esports event. Grefg’s stream also led to Twitch’s largest concurrent viewership ever, with the platform hosting 6.466 million viewers at one time. The stream in question, which drew in a staggering 2,470,347 viewers all on its own, featured the reveal of a new Grefg skin in Fortnite which pays tribute to the record-breaking streamer.
To honor Grefg’s multiple-record-breaking stream Dr Disrespect has congratulated his peer, in his native Spanish, via Twitter. Though Disrespect isn’t fluent in Spanish, the slightly rough pronunciations are balanced out by the genuine and respectful message. Translated from Spanish, the message has Disrespect congratulate Grefg on his new milestone and express amazement at his viewer numbers. However, Disrespect also warns his fellow streamer that he should not become too arrogant, since he doesn’t have to deal with Disrespect’s own Twitch numbers. Grefg responded to the video by teasing Disrespect’s Spanish skills, before expressing gratitude for the congratulations.
While Dr Disrespect showed Grefg a great deal of respect, there are many instances of him actually staying true to his name. The YouTube streamer recently directed some trash talk towards Twitch streamer xQc, making fun of the fact that he was streaming Bloons Tower Defense 6. The casual flash game was obviously seen as a waste of time by Disrespect, who posted a video on Twitter in which he mocked the game. xQc responded aptly, however, calling Disrespect a “boomer” and mocking him in turn.
The internet contains no shortage of Twitch drama, with feuds and rivalries forming a core part of the video game streaming experience. Dr Disrespect has been a part of these tensions in the past, as his name implies, but his most recent video shows another side of the divisive streamer.
