A new behind-the-scenes video for Doom teases an action scene from the film. The original Doom video game was a groundbreaking title for the first person shooter genre, with the plot following a lone marine – dubbed Doomguy – around a base on Mars as he blasts demons from Hell. The game became instantly iconic and the series is still running strong to this day, with the latest entry in 2016 receiving rave reviews.
A movie version of Doom landed in 2005, starring Dwayne Johnson and Karl Urban. The movie ditched the Hell angle and focused on a genetic experiment gone wrong. While the movie has grown something of a cult in the years since release thanks to its extended first-person action scene and the delightfully hammy performance of Johnson, it was a box office dud, and no sequels followed. Johnson himself recently threw shade at the film in a tweet while promoting his latest video game movie Rampage, prompting a reply from Doom’s Twitter account.

News of a new Doom movie came out of nowhere in April, when actress Nina Bergman revealed she’d signed on for the project. The movie is currently shooting in Bulgaria under the direction of Tony Giglio, and Bergman has posted some videos to her Twitter detailing the shoot. This includes stunt rehearsals for a fight scene, where her character faces off with some kind of creature.
She also posted a video showing off a cave set, which might double for the Mars landscape.
The final video shows her getting into costume and makeup and showing off a set exterior.
The new Doom will likely be headed straight to DVD, with the production being handled by Universal 1440 Entertainment, the studio’s non-theatrical arm. The movie will also feature a female lead, with Amy Manson (Once Upon A Time) handling the BFG this time around. The movie has no ties to the 2005 Doom, so while it would be nice to see one, a cameo by The Rock feels highly unlikely.
Some fans were upset with the news the new Doom is heading direct to video, but there are plenty of examples of solid action and horror titles that bypassed cinemas, and so long as Doom has a healthy supply of gore and pays homage to the source, it could make for a fun b-movie.
