Dynamite Comics Disney comic line continues to expand, with the announcement of Disney Villains: Cruella De Vil, as the iconic 100 Dalmatians antagonist will join Maleficent, Scar, and Hades as the latest of Disney’s rogues to have their backstory expanded. Like the previous titles in the line, the series will expand on the original story, but this one will also go to the dogs.

Disney Villains has added new, original stories to the lore of the company’s most memorable animated villains. Maleficent’s series has redefined what fans know about the character.

Scar’s story showed his rise to the throne of Pride Rock. Hades’ series has explored his attempt to get out of the Underworld, before he ever had to face Hercules. Now, Cruella will join in the fun.

Cruella De Vil Will Have More Time To Shine

On Twitter, Sweeney Boo shared one of the covers for the upcoming series from Dynamite Comics. Additional covers were shared by DuckTalks. Cruella De Vil will have the creative team of Sweeney Boo, Miriana Puglia, Jeff Eckleberry, and Nate Cosby. The variant covers revealed for the first issue are illustrated by Sweeney Boo, Josh Middleton, Gretel Lusky, and Miriana Puglia. One cover features an action figure style, matching the line of action figure variant covers Dynamite Entertainment has been producing for the Disney Villain comics. It won’t be long before Disney Villains: Cruella De Vil #1 is added to fans’ collections, with the debut issue set to release in December.

Dynamite’s Disney: Villains Seeks To Redefine Its Focal Characters

Cruella de Vil has starred in numerous adaptations of 101 Dalmatians, from the original animated feature in 1961, based on the novel by Dodie Smith, to the live-action remake released in 1996. She additionally starred in her own film, Cruella, in 2021, which spun off a novel (Hello, Cruel Heart) and a manga from VIZ Media (Disney Cruella: The Manga: Black, White, and Red). She is also the focus of the graphic novel Evil Thing, by Serena Valentino and Arielle Jovellanos. However, this new take, according to writer Sweeney Boo, features dogs who are “ready to get their revenge against everyone favorite villain.

Dynamite Comics has been providing Disney fans with several entertaining new series, set in the company’s many magical worlds. Outside the Disney Villains line of comics, the company has also premiered some titles centered on the Disney Afternoon. Darkwing Duck has made a triumphant return, and his nemesis has received his own spin-off in Negaduck. If that weren’t enough, the Justice Ducks will reunite this December. Gargoyles has also been the subject of recent series, expanding with Gargoyles: Dark Ages. Dynamite Comics is delivering magic and will continue to do so when Disney Villains: Cruella De Vil #1 releases on December 6.
