The Galaxy Watch 5 is the latest smartwatch to come from Samsung, but does it feature a rotating bezel? The ability to rotate the bezel has been a trademark feature of the Galaxy Watch series in the past, and any change in this department may raise some concerns over whether it is worth upgrading to the new Galaxy Watch 5. In general, the new Galaxy Watch 5 offers a host of improvements over its predecessors.
Samsung’s smartwatches have been around for years now and continue to bring competition to the Apple Watch and other smartwatches in the market. Having a rotating bezel is an important feature for some and not necessary for others, and this seemed to be reflected with the launch of the Galaxy Watch 4 series in 2021. While the Galaxy Watch 4 didn’t have a rotating bezel, the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic did come with one.
If having a physical bezel is a requirement for a smartwatch, then it would be a good idea to steer clear of the new Galaxy Watch 5 as there isn’t one included. Although Samsung’s newest smartwatch does not have a rotating bezel in the traditional way, the Galaxy Watch 5 does have a software solution to this. The Watch 5 uses a touch bezel by sliding a finger around the edge of the smartwatch’s screen. Even though this is not a physical rotating bezel, it does accomplish the same goal overall.
Are There Any Physical Controls?
The Galaxy Watch 5 also has two physical buttons on the right side of the watch. These two buttons give users functionality outside the touch screen, one being a home key and the other being a back key. If the user wants to use the buttons for something other than their original purpose, these two buttons can be reprogrammed in the Galaxy Wearable app to add specific controls, such as opening Google Assistant.
Samsung removing the physical barrier from their newest smartwatch will definitely be an annoyance for users who preferred having a physical rotating part of their watch rather than having to rely on the touch screen. With the Galaxy Watch 5’s excellent new Sapphire Crystal glass display, there is less likelihood of the watch cracking or scratching, so less need for a physical bezel to protect the screen in an unfortunate event. Thanks to the Galaxy Watch 5’s improved battery life, extra temperature sensor, and other improvements, Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 5 is a fantastic device, even without a physical rotating bezel.
