Does The Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes Have A Post-Credits Scene?

Does The Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes Have A Post-Credits Scene?

The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes brings audiences back to the young adult movie franchise, and that raises questions about whether viewers need to wait for a post-credits scene. The fifth movie in the Hunger Games franchise overall is the first prequel following a young Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth) and the 10th Hunger Games. Based on the book of the same name by Suzanne Collins, The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes is the first movie in the franchise in eight years following the conclusion of Katniss Everdeen’s story with Jennifer Lawrence in the lead.

The Hunger Games prequel movie puts the franchise in an entirely different spot when considering the future than there was with the original movie. Whereas Collins already had the entire book trilogy written and released before the first film was made, The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes does not have existing source material already released. This makes questions about the franchise’s future even more ambiguous, with the book and The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes‘ ending not particularly helping audiences in that regard. It would be understandable then to wonder if there is an after-credits scene teasing what comes next.

The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes Does Not Have A Post-Credits Scene

There Is No Mid-Credits Or After-Credits Scene

Does The Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes Have A Post-Credits Scene?

It is confirmed that there is no The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes end-credits scene attached to the movie. Viewers are still encouraged to sit through the credits to see the names of the actors, writers, and additional crew members whose hard work made the movie possible. However, there is no mid-credits scene or after-credits scene to give audiences an additional tease regardless of how or when they watch The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Those who do sit through the credits will hear Olivia Rodrigo’s original song “Can’t Catch Me Now,” written specifically for the movie.

The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes Continues Hunger Games’ Post-Credits Tradition

THe Hunger Games Movies Have Never Had Post-Credits

The decision not to give The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes an after-credits scene means the Hunger Games franchise’s tradition continues. The popular movies have never included an end-credits scene in any of the previous installments. There could have been a world where the original Hunger Games movies did include credit scenes teasing what would come in the sequels, especially when considering Hunger Games: Mockingjay was split into two parts. However, the filmmakers always elected to let each film end naturally before the credits and leave audiences waiting for the follow-up to learn more.

It would have been much more difficult for The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes to break the post-credits trend. Since there is no existing source material for a sequel, the filmmakers have no more knowledge about what comes next than the average audience member. Including any sort of credits scene teasing more of Snow’s story or what happens to Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler) would potentially contradict any plans Suzanne Collins has for new books. As a result, the odds of The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes having anything after the credits were never in its favor.
