Does Birds of Prey Have An After-Credits Scene? Definitely Don’t Leave

Warner Bros’ Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is the latest film in the DC Extended Universe, but does the Harley Quinn movie have a post-credits scene setting up a sequel or spinoff? Birds of Prey is itself a spinoff from Suicide Squad, the 2016 David Ayer-directed film in which Margot Robbie first played Harley Quinn. Though that film wasn’t a critical success, Robbie’s Cupid of Crime was well received by critics and casual audiences alike. Warner Bros. put multiple Harley Quinn movies into development, but Cathy Yan’s Birds of Prey is the first to hit theaters.

In addition to Harley Quinn, the movie introduces moviegoers to DC heroes Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez). Together, these three team up in with Harley Quinn in Birds of Prey to take on Black Mask (Ewan McGregor), who’s after a young pickpocket named Cassandra Cain (Ella Jay Basco). The highly anticipated entry in the DCEU is one of two DC comics-inspired films to hit theaters in 2020, the second being Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 1984. Prior to release, Birds of Prey early reviews have largely praised the DC movie.

Now that Birds of Prey is hitting theaters around the world, fans may be wondering if they need to stick around through the credits for the Harley Quinn movie. Birds of Prey DOES have a post-credits scene – sort of. It’s not a scene so much as Harley Quinn’s voiceover providing one final joke for fans. While the credits of a movie are always worth watching to get an idea of who helped make a movie, Birds of Prey fans will want to stick around for the last laugh.

Does Birds of Prey Have An After-Credits Scene? Definitely Don’t Leave

We won’t reveal what exactly the Birds of Prey end-credits tease is for fans who want to remain unspoiled for the movie, but we will note that it doesn’t necessarily set up a future DCEU movie or Harley Quinn spinoff – at least, not explicitly. So anyone hoping for some DCEU world-building or a teaser for Birds of Prey 2 may want to skip this post-credits tease. But moviegoers that enjoyed Harley Quinn’s sense of humor and character in Birds of Prey will no doubt enjoy her final joke in the film, so it’s well worth sticking around for at the end.

Birds of Prey won’t be the last fans see of Robbie’s Harley Quinn, since she’s returning for James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, the quasi-sequel to Ayer’s Suicide Squad. Gunn’s movie started filming last year ahead of its 2021 release date, and the writer-director confirmed Robbie’s return when he revealed the full Suicide Squad 2 cast list. After that, though, whether Harley Quinn or heroines Black Canary, Huntress and Renee Montoya return to the DCEU largely depend on in Birds of Prey is a box office hit. It’s already seen success in terms of critical reception, but it remains to be seen whether audiences will enjoy the film just as much – and whether they’ll show up to the theater to support the female-led DC film.

For now, all fans need to know is that Birds of Prey has a post-credits tease at the very end of the movie and while it may not be a scene, it’s certainly worth sticking around for.
