He’s faced death, but Doctor Strange is about to reclaim his role as Marvel’s Sorcer Supreme in a new ongoing series. Marvel Comics has revealed Doctor Strange #1, which will see the return of Stephen Strange as he embarks on the next chapter of his journey.
Few heroes in the Marvel Universe have mastered magic in the way that Stephen Strange has. After years of study, the former world-renowned surgeon clawed his way to the top to become the Sorcerer Supreme, and premier magical hero of the Avengers. However, recent events have seen the hero replaced after the death of Doctor Strange, a storyline that saw Stephen’s wife Clea become the new Sorcerer Supreme. Clea has only been in the role for a short time, and already faced a number of challenges in the pages of the ongoing series, Strange.
However, it looks like death is nothing but an inconvenience for the Master of the Mystic Arts. In a stunning reveal to fans everywhere, Marvel Comics revealed that Stephen Strange will be returning in a new, ongoing series from Jed MacKay and Pasqual Ferry. Doctor Strange will pick up on the plot threads from Mackay’s The Death of Doctor Strange miniseries and Strange title. Not only is Stephen returning to his role as the Sorcerer Supreme, he’s going to be facing down a new antagonist who has a personal connection with the good doctor. Fans of Strange’s extended cast need not worry, as Stephen will be joined in his new adventures by Clea and Wong. To mark the next phase of Doctor Strange, the hero is also going to be receiving a completely revamped costume designed by comic book legend, Alex Ross, who will be providing the series’ covers.
What Is Next For Doctor Strange And His Allies?
This may come as a surprise to fans as Doctor Strange has only recently shuffled off this moral coil after being murdered by Kaecilius. Though fans may have expected an eventual resurrection, it does seem that it’s come faster than expected as Stephen only died late last year. But the seeds of Strange’s trip back to the land of the living have already been planted as Strange is working for Death while Clea works on a way to bring Stephen back to life.
Death can be a frustrating thing in the world of comic books as it rarely seems like any major character goes down for good. But Doctor Strange’s story is far from over and Mackay and Ferry seem eager to bring fans the Sorcerer Supreme’s next big adventure. Are the bad times behind Stephen and his allies for good? Fans will have to discover that for themselves when Doctor Strange #1 releases March 22, 2023.
