Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Theory: White Vision Will Return

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Theory: White Vision Will Return

With the Scarlet Witch being set up as an antagonist in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it’s possible WandaVision’s White Vision could make an appearance. A creation of S.W.O.R.D during the first MCU series on Disney+, White Vision was a counterpart to the original Vision intended to be used as a weapon. However, his memories were eventually restored before he mysteriously disappeared. Should Scarlet Witch become too powerful for Doctor Strange to handle White Vision could be the key to stopping her, playing a critical part in saving the multiverse in Doctor Strange 2.

In WandaVision, Wanda Maximoff took over the entire town of Westview in her grief, giving every citizen a role in her sitcom narrative against their will. She also created a home for herself and a facsimile of Vision she created, allowing them to live out their happy ending as a married couple with kids, Billy and Tommy. However, Wanda soon lost control as reality began to surround her thanks to the efforts of S.W.O.R.D. While she officially became the Scarlet Witch, she came to the realization that she had to free Westview which meant losing Vision all over again (along with their children).

While S.W.O.R.D’s White Vision was deployed to kill Wanda and her Vision, the Westview version eliminated the threat he posed by restoring his memories. This motivated White Vision to believe himself to be the true Vision, though he then left with no reference to where he might have gone. As a result, it’s very likely that White Vision will appear in Doctor Strange 2, especially with the teases that Wanda will be trying to restore her family by any means necessary.

Scarlet Witch Will Be A Villain In Doctor Strange 2

In the post-credits scene for WandaVision, it was revealed that the Scarlet Witch had obtained the Darkhold from Agatha Harkness, studying its dark contents in an attempt to learn the true nature and lengths of her own power. However, she also heard the voices of her children Billy and Tommy who faded away when she had released her hold over Westview. Combined with her confirmed role in Doctor Strange 2, Wanda may agree to help Strange while having ulterior motives, hoping to reunite with versions of her children in the multiverse.

A darker path for Wanda is also supported by the latest trailer for Doctor Strange 2. While several shots suggest as much, one scene in particular features a bloodied Scarlet Witch standing over another Wanda in grief inside the Westview home. Likewise, a rather poignant scene sees Wanda pointing out the hypocrisy of her journey compared to Strange: “You break the rules and become the hero, I do it and become the enemy.” As such, it seems very likely that Strange and Wanda will end up opposed, using their mystical abilities against one another.

WandaVision Set Up White Vision’s MCU Future

WandaVision also sets up a future for White Vision. Created from the remains of the original Vision by S.W.O.R.D., the primary directive of the new synthezoid was to kill the Vision, his memories having been kept from him to make it easier for him to be controlled as a weapon. However, Westview Vision was able to get through to White Vision using the “Ship of Theseus” thought experiment. This resulted in both Visions concluding that they were both the true Vision and not the true Vision simultaneously. While Westview Vision was created without any of the original material beyond the power of the Mind Stone which came from Wanda, White Vision was made from the remains of the original without having the Mind Stone which gave him his memories, emotions, and humanity.

Thanks to Westview Vison restoring said memories, White Vision is seemingly on the path to becoming a more whole Vision once more. Not only was this visually marked by his eyes becoming less robotic and more human, but he also claimed, “I am Vision” before he left to likely begin processing the flood of memories he was given. As such, it stands to reason that White Vision could make a return to MCU (being more like the original than even Wanda knows).

Theory: White Vision Will Return (& Help Stop Wanda)

Wandavision why White vision didnt help wanda

Given the teases that Wanda will be looking to restore her family in Doctor Strange 2, it makes sense for White Vision to return. Furthermore, he may be the key to stopping her if she indeed goes rogue, pitting herself against Doctor Strange to achieve her goals. While it hasn’t yet been fully confirmed, the Scarlet Witch will likely be more powerful than Strange with the Master of the Mystic Arts not being able to stop her on his own. Wanda certainly seems as though she’d be willing to risk the entire multiverse to restore her family. If that’s the case, White Vision may be the only one to get through to her before the Scarlet Witch becomes irredeemable.

It should be noted that White Vision’s ability to bring Wanda back from the brink hinges on whether or not he’s been able to attach emotion and humanity to his restored memories in between WandaVision and Doctor Strange 2. It certainly seems as though he was set up to do so at the end of the Disney+ series. Despite Doctor Strange 2 already being packed with plenty of rumored and confirmed characters across the Marvel multiverse, the MCU’s White Vision seems to be a necessary addition to the film. Who else stands a better chance of not only stopping Wanda but also helping her as well? While it might not be the happy ending Scarlet Witch envisioned in Westview, White Vision may have become enough of the true Vision to be enough for Wanda when Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness comes to theaters on May 4th.
