Doctor Strange 2 Casts Baby-Sitters Club Star In Mystery Role

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has cast The Baby-Sitters Club star Xochitl Gomez in a mystery role. After the events of Avengers: Endgame, Benedict Cumberbatch is returning to the role of Doctor Strange for a new solo film in Phase 4. The movie was originally set to hit theaters in 2021 and be directed by Scott Derrickson, but changes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe now will see it released in 2022 with Sam Raimi directing.

Despite the release date and director changes, there is still a lot of excitement for Doctor Strange 2. The sequel will feature the return of Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) after WandaVision and will also see the returns of Wong (Benedict Wong) and Baron Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor). With the multiverse angle of the story, there has been no shortage of theories about who else will appear in Doctor Strange 2, especially after reports of Strange appearing in Spider-Man: Homecoming 3 first. However, the cast list for the sequel hasn’t grown until now.

According to Deadline, Marvel has cast The Baby-Sitters Club star Xochitl Gomez in a mystery role for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The casting is not official as Marvel declined to comment about Gomez’s involvement in a future MCU project. Gomez has recently also appeared in Netflix’s Gentefied, but the streamer’s reboot of Baby-Sitters Club is her biggest role to date. That will change if this report of her joining the MCU is true.

Even though the news of Gomez’s casting didn’t come with the reveal of who she is playing, it is possible that previous rumors about Doctor Strange 2 can. At the beginning of 2020, it was rumored that the movie would introduce America Chavez aka Miss America in the MCU. It was recently revealed that Marvel was looking to cast a girl between the ages of 12 and 15 to play Chavez. Gomez is currently 14-years-old and could be the choice.

Gomez playing America Chavez is just a possibility at this point, but it won’t be surprising if it is the role she ultimately portrays. If the young actress is America Chavez, Gomez has found a role that will keep her involved with the MCU well beyond Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Chavez has ties to the Young Avengers, which the MCU is clearly building towards, and the Ultimates. With her ties to the multiverse, America Chavez is a natural choice to be in the Doctor Strange sequel and would be another major role for Gomez to get so early on in her career. With filming slated to begin soon, it might not be long before Gomez’s casting and role are confirmed.
