In the latest issue of DC’s Batman vs Robin, the helmet of Doctor Fate is becoming even more powerful than normal. While the iconic helmet typically houses the spirit of Nabu, one of the Lords of Order, the rise of the Devil Nezha has massively altered its nature, making it a repository for some of the greatest magical powers in the entire DC Universe. Now, all the helmet needs is a new host.
Previously in Batman vs Robin, Damian Wayne inadvertently unleashed Nezha on Lazarus Island. In league with Damian’s great-grandmother Mother Soul, Robin’s soul was corrupted as he became Nezha’s chief puppet in a massive war against magic itself. With Damian using brand-new powers and magical weapons to incapacitate heroes such as the Justice League Dark and more, Nezha has dark plans for the magical beings and items Damian has brought to him thus far, all while Damian’s father Batman has been trying to find and redeem his son from the Devil’s clutches.
Now, the new Batman vs Robin #3 from Mark Waid, Mahmud Asrar, and Scott Godlewski confirms that the Helmet of Fate is currently being modified while in Nezha’s possession. Using Black Alice and her unique ability to take the powers of other magic users, Mother Soul and the Devil have brought her countless victims to siphon their powers and place them within the Helmet of Fate, undoubtedly amplifying its power to even greater levels. Case in point, the Queen of Fables is the most recent victim in this new issue.
DC’s Helmet of Fate Is Now The Ultimate Magical Talisman
While this issue reveals that Nezha fully intends to use the Helmet of Fate to enslave the entire world as his magical army, it’s also revealed that the Devil is operating out of fear. Apparently, he’s building said army as a defense against another more powerful demon known as King Fire Bull. Regardless, Nezha may not become the new Doctor Fate. If previews for the issues to come are any indication, Batman will become the new Doctor Fate, taking on more magical power than any host of Nabu who’s come before.
Having exhausted all of his tools and gadgets in this current issue, it makes sense that Batman will likely put on the Helmet of Fate out of pure necessity. He’s clearly going to need an edge in the face of such immense magical power wielded by Nezha, Mother Soul, and now his own son. Either way, witnessing the new Doctor Fate in action will certainly be a sight to see (especially if that host indeed ends up being Batman). Batman vs Robin #3 is on sale from DC Comics.
