Do Zendaya & Zac Efron Really Sing In The Greatest Showman?

Do Zendaya & Zac Efron Really Sing In The Greatest Showman?

Both Zendaya and Zac Efron appeared in the 2017 feature film musical The Greatest Showman which also starred Hugh Jackman, Michelle Williams, and Rebecca Ferguson. The film, directed by Michael Gracey and written by Jenny Bicks, divided critics while winning over many audiences with its star-studded cast and impressive musical numbers. The film takes a deep dive into the world of real-life nineteenth-century entertainer P.T. Barnum, who created a popular traveling circus that became famous as The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.

While Jackman’s lead role as Barnum was based on a real person, as were Michelle Williams’ Charity Barnum and Rebecca Ferguson’s Jenny Lind, neither Zendaya’s nor Zac Efron’s characters were based on actual people. Zendaya portrays the completely fictional trapeze artist Anne Wheeler in The Greatest Showman, while Efron plays the equally fictional Broadway theater producer Phillip Carlyle. Both characters have singing parts in the musical, raising the question of whether their voices in the movie were actually sung by the famous actors.

Yes, Zendaya & Zac Efron Sing In The Greatest Showman

Both Zac Efron and Zendaya actually sing The Greatest Showman. This fact should not come as too much of a surprise to fans of the musical, since both Zendaya and Zac Efron have had singing parts in film and television before. Zendaya collaborated with music producer and singer/rapper Labrinth on the song “All For Us” which debuted during the season one finale of HBO’s Euphoria. Efron’s singing voice was infamously subbed in the original High School Musical but Efron did take over the singing responsibilities in the two High School Musical sequels.

Zendaya and Zac Efron both appear on three songs in The Greatest Showman with two of them being the same. Efron and Zendaya joined Hugh Jackman and Keala Settle on “The Greatest Show” and duetted on the memorable song “Rewrite the Stars”. Zendaya also appeared in “Come Alive” with Jackman, Settle, and Daniel Everidge, while Efron and Jackman paired up for “The Other Side.” Zendaya and Efron’s “Rewrite the Stars” stands out as one of the best songs in The Greatest Showman.

Zendaya & Zac Efron Are The Best Part Of The Greatest Showman

Despite both of their characters being made up for the film, Zendaya and Efron’s dynamic chemistry is the best part of The Greatest Showman. Jackman is obviously an impressive force along with Rebecca Ferguson and five-time Oscar nominee Michelle Williams. Zendaya’s Anne and Efron’s Phillip represent a beautiful relationship that is thwarted by societal restrictions regarding race and class. The scene in which the couple sings “Rewrite the Stars” is thoughtfully choreographed and mesmerizing in pace, marking an undeniable high point of The Greatest Showman.

    The Greatest Showman
    Summary:
Inspired by the imagination of P.T. Barnum, The Greatest Showman is an original musical that celebrates the birth of show business & tells of a visionary who rose from nothing to create a spectacle that became a worldwide sensation. The Greatest Showman has long been a passion project for star Hugh Jackman, who was first announced to play Barnum back in 2009. Director Michael Gracey was hired for the job in 2011, but the film did not pick up any forward momentum until much later, as principal photography began in November 2016 with stars like Zac Efron, Zendaya, and Michelle Williams also cast. Jackman believed studios were hesitant to green light a new musical, fearful that it would not connect with audiences. It’s possible the overwhelming success of Damien Chazelle’s La La Land, which earned 14 Oscar nominations and grossed $151.1 million domestically, influenced Fox to forge ahead. Coincidentally, the lyricists of La La Land also wrote the songs for this film.Want to know more about The Greatest Showman?
