Disney Secretly Told You Annabeth’s Fate In Percy Jackson’s Season 1 Finale Back In Episode 2

Disney Secretly Told You Annabeth’s Fate In Percy Jackson’s Season 1 Finale Back In Episode 2

Warning! This article contains spoilers for Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1, episode 2 secretly hinted at Annabeth’s fate from the show’s ending. Some of the biggest questions going into Percy Jackson season 1’s ending concerned how the characters would be left off for future seasons. The titular Percy Jackson returned to live with his mother in New York City, vowing to come back to Camp Half-Blood next summer.

Grover was granted his Searcher’s license so that the Satyr could begin the long search for Pan, the lost god of the wild. This actively sets up Percy Jackson season 2’s story, as do some of the other resolutions concerning other characters. One such resolution belongs to Annabeth, teasing where the story will pick up for the daughter of Athena in season 2, not taking into account further Percy Jackson book changes for the TV show. Interestingly, the ending of Annabeth’s character in Percy Jackson season 1 was secretly teased during her introduction in episode 2.

Annabeth’s Ring Foreshadowed Her Finally Returning To Her Father

At the end of Percy Jackson season 1, Annabeth decides to take another chance with her mortal family. She returns to her father and her step-family after previously stating that her troubled home life was what caused her to run away with Luke and Thalia when she was seven. Interestingly, Annabeth’s choice to return to her father was set up secretly by a seemingly inconspicuous aspect of her character: a golden ring.

The ring is easily visible in Percy Jackson‘s season 1 finale on Annabeth’s necklace, the same necklace she gives to Percy before he travels to Olympus. While the show does not outline the importance of the ring, book readers will recognize it as a gift from Annabeth’s father. In the original book, Annabeth received the ring from her father as a peace offering along with a letter asking her to live at home once more. Despite not being explored explicitly in the Percy Jackson TV show, Annabeth’s ring has been present all season, subtly teasing her season 1 ending.

Percy Jackson’s Camp Necklaces Are A Bigger Deal In The Books

The small changes made to Annabeth’s ring and its exploration – or lack thereof – bring to light another aspect of the original Percy Jackson books that is not as big a deal in the TV show. The aspect in question is the necklaces given to the demigods of Camp Half-Blood. In the Percy Jackson books, campers receive necklaces that have beads adorning them, with each bead representing one year at Camp Half-Blood.

At the end of the quest for Zeus’ Master Bolt, Percy receives his own necklace and his first bead which is decorated with Poseidon’s trident. These necklaces receive more of a focus in the original books, explaining why Annabeth’s ring – which she keeps on her necklace – is explored more in the source material. While the necklaces do not receive as much attention in Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1, the subtle inclusion of the jewelry still proves the dedication to faithfulness the Disney+ adaptation possesses.
