Disney Princess Art Imagines Live-Action Characters In The Year Their Movies Came Out

New art imagines Disney princesses if their live-action remakes were made the same year the original cartoon was released. In recent years, Disney’s trend of turning its classic animated movies into live-action remakes has gained significant popularity. The studio has remade many of its original cartoons as live-action movies to mixed success, with recent examples including The Little Mermaid, Peter Pan & Wendy, Cruella, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella, and Maleficent.

Now, some new AI art is imagining if these Disney live-action remakes were made the same year the original cartoon came out. Check out the series of images below, which were posted to r/midjourney by u/7olenge:

The images show Snow White (1937), Cinderella (1950), Alice in Wonderland (1951), Tinker Bell from Peter Pan (1953), Princess Aurora from Sleeping Beauty (1959), Cruella de Vil from 101 Dalmations (1961), Ariel from The Little Mermaid (1989), Belle from Beauty and the Beast (1991), and Jasmine from Aladdin (1992).

A Live-Action 1990s Aladdin & 1930s Snow White Look Great

Of all the images imagining live-action Disney remakes if they were made the same year as the original cartoon, the Aladdin image, which is actually the last one in the slideshow above, is the most eye-catching. The Aladdin image appears appropriately eccentric, capturing the color palette of the decade and rendering an image reminiscent of beloved 1990s sitcoms like Saved by the Bell and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Perhaps a 1990s live-action Aladdin would have been better than the 2019 live-action remake which lacked the dazzling splendor of the original animated movie.

The 1930s live-action Snow White, which are the first few images in the slideshow, are also quite eye-catching. The reimagined Disney princess effectively captures the look of the time period with an elegance reminiscent of Scarlett O’Hara, the protagonist played by Vivien Leigh in 1939’s Gone with the Wind. In Disney‘s upcoming live-action Snow White remake, the titular princess will be played by Rachel Zegler, who showcased a similar elegance in her acclaimed role as María in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story.
