Disney Has 1 Perfect Fix For Percy Jackson’s Aging Problem

Percy Jackson and the Olympians‘ season 1 cast members are already aging rapidly, meaning Disney needs to employ one specific fix to avoid discrepancy between characters and their actors. Now that Percy Jackson season 1’s ending has aired, attention will quickly turn to the status of a continuation. Percy Jackson season 2 was confirmed by Disney only a week after the finale of season 1, and book readers are hoping the differences between Walker Scobell’s Percy Jackson and Logan Lerman’s iteration will continue.

8 Biggest Differences Between Walker Scobell & Logan Lerman’s Percy Jacksons

Although Logan Lerman and Walker Scobell both get key elements of Percy Jackson’s personality right, their iterations of the character differ.

While Lerman was certainly an enjoyable Percy Jackson, it was common knowledge that the actor was simply too old to portray what was supposed to be a 12-year-old Percy. Scobell’s youthfulness naturally aligns him much closer with the character, meaning the Percy Jackson TV show’s book changes were reserved for elements that would improve the story as opposed to egregious changes like character ages. However, Disney faces a reality in which the young cast of the show is swiftly growing up, with one fix the only solution to avoid a repeat of the 2010 movie.

Percy Jackson’s Cast Ages Could Be Fixed By Shooting Seasons 2 & 3 Back-To-Back

While the cast of Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1 all aligned with their characters when the show was shooting, they have already begun to change due to their aging. Due to Scobell specifically being 15 as of January 2024, every month seems to add a year to his appearance. This means that the young star already looks notably older than he did when Percy Jackson season 1 was in development.

This risks the problem of the Percy Jackson cast outgrowing their characters, though one fix could be utilized by Disney to avoid this. Now that Percy Jackson is renewed, Disney could order season 3 before season 2 starts filming. This would allow both seasons to be shot back-to-back, meaning Scobell and his co-starts do not age too quickly for the next two stories set in the universe.

Shooting Seasons 2 & 3 Back-To-Back Would Avoid Problems For Percy Jackson’s Final Seasons

Shooting Percy Jackson seasons 2 and 3 back-to-back would be the first priority for Disney to avoid aging problems with the cast. In the second and third books, Percy is supposed to be 13 and 14 years old respectively. This would mean that Scobell would somewhat fit these ages if both Percy Jackson seasons 2 and 3 were shot simultaneously and would not be at the age where he looks too old for the character.

Regarding Percy Jackson and the Olympians‘ final two seasons, the titular character is supposed to be 15 and 16. By the time Scobell hits this point in his own life, his aging will become less apparent than it was between the ages of 12 and 14. Therefore, the final two seasons will not need to be rushed into production, with only Percy Jackson and the Olympians seasons 2 and 3 benefitting from a simultaneous production.
