Disney+: 10 More Musicals That Should Join Hamilton On The Streaming Service

Disney surprised people when it revealed that the incredibly popular Hamilton Broadway show will be put onto Disney+ on July 3, with fans incredibly excited about seeing it. Whether it’s audiences who have been lucky enough to experience it live or those who have never seen it, everyone now has the chance to enjoy it on the streaming service.

However, even though having Hamilton on the streaming service is excellent news for people, it has left many wondering what other shows may get added down the line. With so many great musicals available, what could Disney add next?

Frozen The Musical (2018)

Even though Hamilton is nothing to do with Disney, that doesn’t mean that the company doesn’t have plenty of its own fantastic musical stage shows to highlight. One that Disney could put on is Frozen The Musical, which obviously tells the story of the original hit film.

This musical was incredibly popular with theatre goers but sadly is now no longer on Broadway. So, what better way to celebrate the musical than by showing it on Disney+ so that it can live on forever?

Les Miserables (1987)

While Hamilton is the big sensation at the moment, if Disney is looking for a major musical to add then they don’t come much bigger than Les Miserables. This is one of the most iconic and popular musical theatre shows of all time and placing it onto Disney+ would be a really popular decision.

The story might be quite serious and not so much in line with Disney’s family-friendly story, but then again, neither is Hamilton. Adding that show has opened the door for more serious content to follow and therefore Les Miserableswould be a good shout.

Cats (1981)

Sure, the movie based on this longstanding musical theatre show didn’t exactly go down well, and therefore Disney might be hesitant to take a gamble on the stage show. However, putting Cats onto Disney+ would be a great way of highlighting just how great this musical really is.

While the film might have been panned by critics, the music was still just as enjoyable and seeing the stage show would be great for people. It has a very family-friendly appeal and some amazing choreography, which would make this a good show to put on.

Annie (1977)

Disney made its own version of the popular musical, Annie, back in 1999, and that movie can be found on Disney+. So, why not put in the stage version of the movie as well? This is the version people are most familiar with and it’s a heartwarming family-friendly story that fits the bill.

There aren’t many reasons not to have Annie already on as the stage show version of this great story really is gripping and fun. There’s a great lesson to be learned for viewers and it’s certainly family-friendly.

Into The Woods (1987)

Much like Annie, Into The Woods is another movie that is already on Disney+. The film proved to be very popular with James Corden and Emily Blunt bringing fantastic performances to the film, but it was all inspired by the musical stage show.

Seeing that brought to life on Disney+ for fans of the film to enjoy whenever they liked would be brilliant to see, especially considering how great the music is for this one.

The Phantom Of The Opera (1988)

In terms of classic musicals, they don’t get much bigger than this one. The Phantom Of The Opera is a huge musical that has been adapted many times and is one that would be very popular on Disney+.

Audiences absolutely love this musical and the classic songs that come with it. The story is one of mystery and intrigue, and while there are a few darker, more mature moments, it would be an interesting addition.

In The Heights (2005)

Disney+ is already adding one classic musical from the brain of Lin Manuel Miranda, so why not add another? In The Heights is another fantastic musical that deserves to be seen by as many people as possible, and adding it to the streaming platform would certainly achieve that goal.

Focusing on a neighborhood in Washington Heights over the course of three days, this musical tackles a whole range of issues that would really be useful for a lot of people to learn about.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (2005)

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is an incredibly fun movie that provides very similar feelings to that of Mary Poppins or Bedknobs And Broomsticks, and that is why the musical version would be perfect to stream on Disney+.

It’s incredibly upbeat and tons of fun with some really iconic songs and of course, the big moment with the car which is very memorable. It’s the ideal musical for families to sit around together and enjoy watching, which is what Disney+ is all about.

Lion King The Musical (1997)

It’s actually a major surprise that this isn’t already on Disney+ as Lion King The Musical is arguably Disney’s most successful stage production of all time. Disney quite obviously has the rights to this one and therefore it would be simple for the company to get it on.

Considering how popular the film is and the fact that the stage show version is also beloved, it just makes sense to get this musical onto the streaming platform at some point soon.

Wicked (2003)

Never has there been a musical more suited to being placed onto Disney+ than Wicked. It is not only one of the most iconic stage shows but has a huge part of the popular Wizard Of Oz story. While Disney didn’t make that movie, the company has utilised the film from time to time, such as inside The Great Movie Ride at Hollywood Studios.

On top of that, Return To Oz is actually on Disney+, so it would make sense to have more content related to this world on the streaming service. Considering the great response Hamilton has gotten for Disney, hopefully, it will spur the company on to bring more shows to the platform in the future.
