Did Suicide Squad: KTJL Leaks Really Just Spoil Who Dies?

A major character death in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League may have just been revealed via leaks. As its title would suggest, Rocksteady’s upcoming shooter will have players assuming control of Amanda Waller’s Task Force X – consisting of Deadshot, Harley Quinn, King Shark, and Captain Boomerang – as they are sent on a mission to kill the DC universe’s top superhero team, the Justice League, who have fallen victim to Brainiac’s mind-control.

[Warning: The following story may contain major spoilers for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.]

Between Thursday, November 30, and Sunday, December 3, Rocksteady held a closed Alpha Tech Test for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. The details of this playtest were supposed to be confidential, and those who were invited to participate signed a non-disclosure agreement. Despite this, the test has still resulted in several leaks from data miners who didn’t participate, and while these have largely consisted of what playable characters will be introduced post-launch, major story beats may have also been revealed as a result.

One Leak May Have Revealed Batman’s Death

Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League May… Kill Some Of The Justice League

Considering the game’s name, it is not too surprising to hear that some of the Justice League may die as part of the main narrative. However, one such death was shared in a now-deleted Reddit post by Username41968 breaking down what could be a summary of the main story, and has proven to be massively controversial among fans if true. The leak contained audio of the moment in which Batman is shot and killed by Harley Quinn at point-blank range before she displays his corpse to create a makeshift Batsymbol. The leaked content has been summarised by Resetera, and while the audio has been removed, a screenshot of the moment in which Harley holds a gun to a captured Batman’s head has been saved and shared by X user Gyatt Morrison with the caption “Here’s your Kevin Conroy send-off bros!

Suicide Squad: KTJL will have Kevin Conroy’s final performance as Batman, which was recorded prior to his passing in November 2022. Although Rocksteady was obviously unaware that this would be the last time Conroy would portray the character when the game was written, and Conroy would have been fully aware of the moment when he signed on and acted it out, this seems to be a common reason given by fans as to why they’re finding Batman’s death to be so controversial in the game, even though other the deaths of heroes such as Superman, Robin, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern were mentioned in the summary as well. Another reason being shared is that after playing through four games as the Arkhamverse’s version of Batman and seeing him best Harley Quinn in combat on several occasions across the series, it feels wrong to see him defeated in such a manner.

How Legitimate Is The Batman Death Scene Leak?

One Data Miner Suggests There’s More To The Story

While it’s likely that there will be some major deaths in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, and Rocksteady hasn’t shied away from killing iconic DC characters such as Joker in its previous games, there have been some comments suggesting that there’s more to the leaked Batman death scene than meets the eye. Miller Ross – who has been responsible for leaking many of the playable characters such as Killer Croc, Deathstroke, Katana, and more – has called foul on the leaked summary in many ways, stating that it gets a lot of key moments “completely wrong” due to being based solely on audio of the cutscene dialogue, which includes characters exaggerating or outright fabricating details. He then goes on to say: “Quite literally, it’s not what it sounds like. In some big ways.

Miller did then go on to share a screenshot of other X users discussing the moment “Harley Quinn [shoots] Batman in the head, killing him in a pretty disrespectful way” and when asked why he spoilt it after he previously stated he wouldn’t cover major story spoilers, he explained that he would have to shoehorn a caveat to explain he’s “not covering up the ‘spoiler’ because it’s 100% correct but because people will assume it is” and that would exceed the platform’s character limit. He also followed it up with a message addressing the controversy among the fanbase in which he explicitly points out that he disputes the story leak.

However, Rocksteady Games has issued a statement on its official X account responding to the story leaks, suggesting that there is an element of truth to them. The post said that “it is very disappointing to see details being shared ahead of the game’s release“, and while this could be referring to the reveals of playable characters that the studio wanted to save for a later date, the statement then goes on to “urge [players] to avoid spoilers where [they] can“, which is more likely referring to the story moments being shared online.

Players will have to wait until Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League‘s February 2, 2024 release date – or most likely the 72-hour early access launch on January 30, 2024, for those who pre-ordered the game’s Deluxe Edition – to find out for certain how these moments play out exactly. While the move to kill off major characters shouldn’t come as a surprise, there’s likely more than meets the eye within the game’s story, especially as this is the introduction of the Arkhamverse’s version of most of these heroes.
