Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2021 Cast Guide: What The Actors Look Like

The 2021 Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie features a cast of talented actors of all ages. Most of the main characters and their voice actors are rather young, and yet many of these actors have already gained extensive experience in the entertainment industry. Such impressive filmographies let them shine in this animated movie about the ups and downs of middle school.

The 2021 Diary of a Wimpy Kid holds several firsts. Along with being the first animated version of the books, it’s also the first one to be produced by Disney and release on Disney+, and the first 20th Century Fox movie to be marketed with the Disney brand. Disney clearly has high hopes for the movie since they have already announced plans for a second Diary of a Wimpy Kid, called Rodrick Rules, to release on Disney+ in 2022.

Like its previous live-action adaptations, Diary of a Wimpy Kid is based on Jeff Kinney’s popular book series about the inner workings of one particular middle schooler’s mind. Since the book series includes fun stick drawings along with the words, an animated adaptation has the potential to better capture the spirit of the source material. Greg’s simple drawings of himself allowed any reader to be able to see themselves in him, regardless of what they actually looked like, and the film’s animation style has captured that vision. Here’s the cast and character guide for the 2021 Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and what the voice actors look like in real life.

Brady Noon As Greg Heffley

Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2021 Cast Guide: What The Actors Look Like

Brady Noon voices Greg Heffley, the mischievous main character in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Greg is fixated on rising up the “popularity ladder” any way he can, and rarely takes the blame for when things go wrong. He often gets himself and his best friend Rowley into trouble for his schemes, and he has a somewhat complicated relationship with his family, especially his father and brother. Brady Noon starred as Evan Morrow in the TV series The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, and previously appeared in the movie Good Boys and, before that, the show Boardwalk Empire, in which he split the role with his twin brother Connor. His upcoming projects include the rom-com Marry Me and the movie Rust, which, at the time of writing, had suspended filming due to a tragic accident with a prop gun.

Ethan William Childress As Rowley Jefferson

Ethan William Childress voices Greg’s best friend, Rowley Jefferson. Rowley is generally much more kindhearted and honest than Greg, who is much more concerned about popularity than him. His favorite singer is an artist whose fanbase primarily consists of young girls, which Greg makes fun of him for, and he owns a comic strip called Zoo Wee Mama! Although they are often very close, Greg sometimes acts antagonistic toward Rowley, especially if he is jealous of something. Ethan William Childress got his start with two shorts, The United States of Tomorrow and Happy Place, before being cast as Johan Johnson in the TV series Mixed-ish. Diary of a Wimpy Kid is his first feature film role.

Chris Diamantopoulos As Frank Heffley

Chris Diamantopoulos voices Greg’s father, Frank Heffley. Frank is often tough on Greg for slacking off and disapproves of his son’s love of video games. He also greatly dislikes teenagers. Diamantopoulos has previously played Moe Howard in The Three Stooges, Finn in Good Girls Revolt, Rodney in The Starter Wife, Rob Weiss in 24, and Russ Hanneman in Silicon Valley. He also has a fair amount of voice acting experience as Mickey in The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse, Donald Ferguson in Invincible, and Ched in Centaurworld, among others. His next project is starring in the TV series Pantheon.

Erica Cerra As Susan Heffley
