Destiny 2: Beyond Light Shows The Power Of Darkness In New Stasis Trailer

A new trailer for Destiny 2’s upcoming Beyond Light expansion offers the best look yet at the Stasis elemental powers coming when the Guardians finally make contact with the Darkness. Bungie also announced that Destiny 2 and all of its expansions are coming to Xbox Game Pass.

Beyond Light will kick off a new chapter in Destiny 2 that some players have been waiting a long time for. Since the beginning of the original Destiny, players have been working for the Traveler, a mysterious spacefaring being that harbors the power of Light, in its fight against an antagonist known only as the Darkness. The Darkness has stayed mostly offscreen, but recently it’s been making its presence felt in Destiny 2. All throughout the Season of Arrivals, the pyramid ships that make up the Darkness’ vanguard have played a bigger role, and they’re expected to become a major threat in the Beyond Light expansion. So much of a threat, in fact, that they’ll block access to several locations in Destiny 2 as part of Bungie’s new rotating “content vault,” which will periodically cycle the content available in the game.

One of the most exciting things coming in Beyond Light is the arrival of the Stasis subclasses, which draw power from the Darkness. It will mark the first time an entirely new elemental class has been added to the game, and the story implications are huge. For now, all players can do is speculate on what the Darkness’ arrival means and check out a few of the powers that Stasis will unlock in a new trailer from Bungie. The clip shows players using Stasis grenades to create ice walls, the first time that such terrain manipulation has been possible in Destiny 2. Stasis will also include more traditional offensive abilities, allowing Guardians to slow, freeze, and shatter enemies. The video appears to show a mix of melee, grenade, and Super abilities, along with potentially Stasis-powered weapons.

Fans will have to wait just a little longer than originally planned to get their hands on Beyond Light. It was recently delayed from September 22nd to November 10th, with a message from Bungie noting the difficulty of adjusting the changes in working conditions made necessary by the COVID-19 pandemic.

After watching the latest Destiny 2: Beyond Light trailer, it might feel just a little harder to wait the extra few weeks until its release, and even more important that Bungie takes the time to get it right. Beyond Light could be the most important expansion in Destiny 2’s history, and it lays the groundwork for two more expansions that have already been announced.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light will be available on Xbox One, PC, and PlayStation 4 on November 10th, 2020.
