The cast of the hit series Derry Girls have teased that season 3 will contain major guest appearances. Derry Girls, created by Lisa McGee, is the hit comedy which airs on Channel 4 in the UK and as a Netflix original in North America. Derry Girls is loosely based on McGee’s life, and tells the story of five teens living in Derry, Northern Ireland during The Troubles in the 1990s. Derry Girls stars Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Louisa Harland, Nicola Coughlan, Jamie-Lee O’Donnell and Dylan Llewellyn, and has been a major success since it first began airing back in 2018.
Upon the release of Derry Girls season 1, the series quickly became a hit, and a season 2 of the show followed only a year later. With Derry Girls season 2 ending on a particularly heartwarming note, fans were certainly hungry to see what would happen to their favorite characters next. Unfortunately, Derry Girls was one of the many productions that found itself repeatedly hindered by the COVID-19 pandemic, and as such, the season 3 shoot was pushed back many times. However, after nearly a three-year wait, audiences can finally return to the town of Derry when Derry Girls season 3 releases later this month. While it is certainly exciting that the hit comedy series is finally returning, it is also somewhat bittersweet, as it has been revealed that Derry Girls season 3 will be its final season.
With that said, Derry Girls season 3 seems to promise a few surprises before viewers eventually have to say farewell to their favorite characters. In a recent interview with Radio Times, Derry Girls star Harland (who plays Orla in the series) teased that the new season will feature some “major guest stars.” While she did not elaborate any further on who these guests may be, she did tease that she thinks fans will “lose their minds when they see who.”
It seems this is not all Derry Girls season 3 has in store for audiences when it returns. James actor Llewellyn has also teased that several fan-favorite characters from Derry Girls season 1 and 2 will be making reappearances before the show ends. Again, the actor was careful not to reveal too much about the upcoming season, however, it certainly seems clear that the Derry Girls team has put a lot of effort in to making the series’ swan song one that will not soon be forgotten.
It certainly will be hard to say goodbye to the whacky characters of Derry Girls, especially given that the series is only just coming back after a long pandemic-related break. However, over the last few weeks, many cast and crew members who have worked on Derry Girls season 3 have made it clear that it is something that they are very proud of, and they believe fans are going to love. Audiences will get to discover just which major mystery faces will be appearing on Derry Girls season 3 when it releases on April 12.
