Death & Other Details Episode 7 Recap: 10 Story Reveals & Killer Clues

Death & Other Details Episode 7 Recap: 10 Story Reveals & Killer Clues

Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for Death and Other Details episode 7.

Death and Other Details episode 7 took viewers back to Seattle in 2005, when Rufus first started investigating the death of Imogene’s mom, Kira. After Death and Other Details episode 6expanded the show’s body count to include Alexandra and Llewellyn, the search for Viktor Sams, his true identity, and his crew became even more pressing. At the end of the previous episode, Rufus revealed to Imogene that he was a hack, and she demanded that he share every detail he had of her mother’s case so she could solve it herself.

Death and Other Details has many mysteries to solve and only three episodes to wrap everything up. Each Death and Other Details character has a different agenda, but Imogene’s biggest concern is finding out who Viktor Sams is and why he killed her mother. Death and Other Details episode 7 revealed that her mother’s death is far more connected to what is happening on the ship than they could have predicted.

10 Rufus Walked Imogene Through Her Mom’s Case

Imogene put herself in Rufus’s shoes

Death and Other Details episode 7 followed a different format when it went back in time to Kira’s last days and Rufus’s investigation. Rather than have an episode of Rufus and Imogene talking in the present day with flashbacks in between as previously done, a grown-up Imogene took Rufus’s place, literally putting herself in his shoes. It was a unique way of showing what had happened in the past while Imogene tried to pick up new details and discover what Llewellyn said Rufus missed in Death and Other Details episode 6.

9 Rufus Took The Case For Money

Rufus stayed because of Imogene

Since Rufus was actually a hack and not the so-called “greatest detective in the world,” he had been taking easy, solvable cases that could maintain his perfect record. The case of Kira’s murder was the opposite of what he was used to. There were no real leads on the case and young Imogene was the only witness to what had happened.

Danny advised him not to take the case, but he took it anyway because Lawrence Collier was a billionaire who was willing to pay Rufus quite a bit to find Kira’s murderer. When Rufus met Imogene, he knew that he couldn’t give up on the case. He made a promise to Imogene in Death and Other Details that he’d find her mother’s killer, and though he hasn’t been able to fulfill it, he still hasn’t stopped trying after all these years.

8 Kira Rejected Llewellyn’s Advances

Llewellyn claimed to be in love with Kira

Death & Other Details Episode 7 Recap: 10 Story Reveals & Killer Clues

Before Llewellyn jumped off the ship in Death and Other Details episode 6, he confessed that he’d been in love with Kira. When Rufus interviewed those who knew her back in 2005, Llewellyn referred to her as an “angel,” which not everyone agreed with. Rufus also found out Llewellyn had asked Kira out multiple times but was always turned down. Though Rufus referred to Llewellyn as a jilted lover, he didn’t pursue the theory that he might have been involved in Kira’s death.

In Death and Details episode 6, Rufus asked Llewellyn if he was in cahoots with Viktor Sams but never received a proper answer. Llewellyn had felt a sense of guilt after Alexandra’s death, and he seemed to express regret over Kira’s death as well. With his last words to Rufus being about how the truth had been right in front of his face, Llewellyn knew more about Kira’s murder than he’d let on, but it’s still unclear how much he knew.

7 A Page In Kira’s Journal Was Missing

Kira got into an argument the month before she died

In their investigation, Rufus and Danny discovered that a page in Kira’s journal was missing. They didn’t know whether she’d ripped it out herself or if someonehad taken the page, but they were able to find a hidden note in the journal. Kira had set up a meeting at the Opal Diner a month before her death but hadn’t written down who she was meeting.

Rufus and Danny deduced that whatever happened at the diner was key to finding out who killed Kira. They spoke to a cook who worked there and told them Kira had gotten into an argument with someone, but he didn’t know who she’d been talking to. Imogene had also been at the diner, but she didn’t know what had happened either.

6 Rufus Returned To The Case 15 Years Later

About 15 years after Rufus officially abandoned Kira’s case in Death and Other Details, Danny found another lead regarding Viktor Sams. They discovered that he’d returned, which gave them an opportunity to reopen their investigation. When Rufus tried to return to the Colliers with the news, Llewellyn threatened Rufus, saying he had information he claimed could ruin his life and career. Not long after, Rufus took the job for the Chuns, which allowed him to look into the Colliers, board the ship, and reunite with Imogene.

5 Imogene Was Rufus’s Only Lead

Imogene couldn’t remember what happened

Rufus hadn’t wanted to leave behind Kira’s case when he did, as he had promised Imogene he’d find out who murdered her mother. However, the case was going nowhere, and the Colliers were done paying him only for him to turn up with no answers. His only lead was Imogene, but she couldn’t remember what happened to her mother in the diner. Without any further clues as to who Viktor Sams was and who Kira was arguing with, Rufus and Danny were forced to move on, though Rufus still did his best to keep his promise to Imogene behind the scenes.

4 Young Imogene Made A Promise

Despite Rufus’s best efforts, Imogene struggled to remember what happened that day in the diner with her mom. Eventually, she realized it was because she’d promised someone that she’d never share what truly happened. Due to this, Imogene’s mind blocked out the memory to the point where it was nearly impossible to access. Later in Death and Other Details episode 7, it was revealed that Imogene’s mom had made her promise not to tell anyone just before she died in an attempt to protect her daughter.

3 Imogene’s Mom Made Her Get Out The Car

Imogene’s mom died in a car explosion as a young Imogene watched, standing in the Collier family driveway. Death and Other Details episode 7 revealed that Imogene had been in the car with her mother, but she made her get out. Imogene had stolen something from Anna and her mom made her return it before they left. It’s unclear whether Kira knew what was going to happen, but by telling Imogene to get out, she saved her daughter’s life. Ironically, Imogene was caught stealing from Anna’s company 15 years later.

2 Kira Was Fighting With Alexandra At The Diner

Kira wanted to expose the Colliers

Towards the end of Death and Other Details episode 7, Imogene finally remembered what happened in the diner. She had overheard an argument between her mom and another woman who turned out to be Alexandra. Kira had come to Alexandra in the hopes of building a case against Collier Mills. At that point, she knew of five employees who died, likely because of the cancerous Capinonem Blue they were using in their factories overseas.

Kira had been working as Lawrence’s assistant, but after learning what was happening, decided to be a whistleblower. Unfortunately, even though Kira said she could get a witness, Alexandra felt that there wasn’t enough evidence to properly go against the Colliers, which caused the argument. In Death and Other Details episode 6, Alexandra tried to pick up where Kira left off and give evidence to Hilde, but her files had somehow been replaced, and she died of poisoning before she could share the truth.

1 Celia Was Kira’s Witness

Imogene also remembered who her mother’s witness was, as Kira had apologized to her in the diner. Kira told Alexandra that her witness’s husband was one of the employees who died, and that witness turned out to be Celia Chun. This explains why the Chuns later hired Rufus to look into the Colliers, and now that they own the majority stock in Collier Mills, they can finally get their revenge. At the end of Death and Other Details episode 7, Imogene publicly confronted Celia with the truth, but the episode ended before Celia could respond.
