Deadpool’s Reckless Multiverse Adventure In Deadpool & Wolverine Causes Avengers: Secret Wars Claims MCU Theory

A new MCU theory suggests that Deadpool & Wolverine will be a direct prelude to Avengers: Secret Wars. With Deadpool & Wolverine’s first trailer confirming a series of multiversal misadventures for Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) involving the Time Variance Authority, Deadpool’s actions may cause a drastic ripple effect, one that could very well lead to the MCU’s major multiverse crossover set to release in 2027.

In the first trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine, Wade Wilson is recruited by the TVA from Marvel’s Loki to seemingly save the MCU. However, the rest of the trailer then teases the idea that Deadpool will find himself against the TVA. To that end, a strong theory subverts the idea that Wilson will be mirroring his classic comics story Deadpool Kills The Marvel Universe by saving a universe instead with help from Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. It’s also possible that Wade’s actions will set up Avengers:Secret Wars at the same time.

What Is The TVA Recruiting Deadpool For?

“A Hero Among Heroes”

Having been arrested during his birthday party, the beginning of Deadpool & Wolverine’s trailer sees Deadpool face to face with the TVA’s Mister Paradox (Matthew Macfadyen). Rather than simply pruning him for his time-traveling misdeeds from the end of Deadpool 2 when Wade altered time to save the lives of his fiancée Vanessa and his fellow members of X-Force (among other things), Paradox wants to recruit Wade for an important mission. According to Paradox, Deadpool will be given “the chance to become a hero among heroes”.

Considering Deadpool’s response about saving the MCU and being a messianic “Marvel Jesus”, it does seem on the surface as though the TVA’s intentions are altruistic. However, a happy alliance between Deadpool and the TVA isn’t what’s implied in the rest of the trailer with Deadpool battling multiple TVA agents. This suggests that Wade will end up learning the truth about what the TVA wants from him, and then decides he’s interested. As such, the TVA may be looking to prevent a multiversal incursion of realities by killing one universe to save the other, rather than both being destroyed.

In this scenario, the TVA will likely be filling the role of the Illuminati in Time Runs Out, the prelude to the comics’ Secret Wars in 2015. While it was ultimately futile, the Illuminati preemptively destroyed entire realities to prevent incursions with their own universe. As such, this could easily be the TVA’s motive in Deadpool & Wolverine, especially given the hints that they may be a different and potentially darker version of the TVA than the one seen in Marvel’s Loki.

Deadpool May Be Trying To Save A Universe (Rather Than Killing One)

Fighting The TVA (With Help From Wolverine)

Assuming an incursion is indeed what the TVA is trying to prevent, it’s likely that the two universes in danger of a multiversal collision would be Fox’s X-Men universe and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This is strongly hinted at considering the half-buried 20th Century Fox logo and more characters from the Fox universe being featured in a wasteland which is likely Loki’s Void at the End of Time, the realm in which everything the TVA prunes from the timestream ends up.

If the TVA decides that the MCU is the universe worth saving over the Fox universe, it makes sense that Deadpool would be against the idea of killing the reality belonging to his family and friends. As such, it’s not a stretch to imagine that Deadpool will be trying to prevent the full erasure of his own universe, a mission that will both pit him against the TVA while also teaming him up with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and more Fox universe characters (as well as any potential variants).

Deadpool Could Kickstart A Massive Incursion

Essentially, this conflict between Deadpool and the TVA could very well lead to even more multiversal upheaval, even if Deadpool and Wolverine somehow find a way to save some form of the Fox universe. To that end, it does seem very likely that Deadpool & Wolverine will serve as the prelude for Avengers: Secret Wars which will likely bring together a massive amount of realities together in one massive crossover, the culmination of the Multiverse Saga itself.

If Deadpool has to choose between the MCU with all its heroes and the Fox universe with all his family, he’s almost certainly going to choose his family. In this case, it’s pretty easy to see how the multiversal misadventures to come in Deadpool & Wolverine can directly set up Avengers: Secret Wars (even if there wasn’t an issue of Secret Wars lying on the ground next to Deadpool at the end of the trailer).
